I love Dark Souls 2, and all I can say is if you're thinking "when does it get good" then you should just stop playing at that point. You're REALLY gonna hate the shit things they did with 2, like soul memory, adaptability, less interesting bosses imo, et cetera. Still love the fuck out of 2 tho, favorite in the series. You're better off waiting for 3, which will (hopefully) be better than the 2 combined.

about when you can start making your own build. Souls games fucking suck until you find 'your weapon'. Try a spellblade/paladin build first to sort of figure out what you enjoy most, as they're the most versatile builds. there's a few weapons that act as catalysts or chimes in addition to being melee weapons.

How is Forlorn's gear anyways? It looks pretty stylish and the weapons are deliciously edgy looking but I'm not sure having to be full Hollow to get the most out of them is worth it, even with the notCling Ring.

Nothing wrong with lord vessel. My issues are the entire lava kingdom being shit. All of the lord bosses are also terrible. Dukes is ok, dark spooky cave has a couple good parts but other shit is annoying. The final area and boss are good if you don't parry him to death

I join the chaos covenant every playthrough after like, the second, just for the sole purpose of skipping that shithole. There's zero good level design, blatantly copypasted enemies, and the absolute shittiest boss in the game. Even compared to the other puzzle bosses in hte franchise, Bed of Chaos was absolute trash

lost izalith isn't bad because of "lazy". they straight up ran out of time and were told to finish the game and they still needed weeks at least to finish it. it was namco breathing down their neck, hard to blame From.
yes it's a horrible area but it's what happens when a publisher forces out a game before it's done. it was clearly the last part of the game they worked on and they simply didn't get to finish. the game has alternate animations for bed of chaos where it pulls itself up and moves around, it was actually going to be a badass fight but they didn't get to finish.

Assuming this isn't bait...
The game fails to live up to DaS1, but there are a lot more play styles and builds, so try a lot of weapons in pvp. If you want good level design and memorable bosses, then you need to go back to DaS1.

The only time you should grind in a souls game is for some sets of armor, and SotFS made a lot of the armor sets in chests so there is less grinding needed. Maybe the heide knight set, and that one shitty looking set from the Ivory king boss fight are the only hard ones to obtain.
