and i still like Ground Control
it was made 3 hours from where I live and it was awesome
Correct me if im wrong but arent both Jennifer Hales character from the GC expantion and her spartan in Halo both named Sarah Palmer?
>>
>>321343636
The only time I've seen an Ahwassa being semi-useful is on Setons, both airplayers having a huge ASF blob and the Ahwassa being used to take potshots at naval blobs and then retreating quickly into SAM fields.
>>
>>321344389
yeah I can see it working as the seraphim anti-naval option
>>
>Want to get into Wargame
>No friends who play RTS
>Heard the singleplayer is trash
Oh well.
>>
every time I think about how trash the Seraphim are in direct game winning options I remember that they can park Selens on mass points and force opponents to micro to take them (which can in turn be counter micro'd) and they have spammable navies/armies where everyone else has to diversify to win

Quick question guys. Are C&C original and Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 still worth playing? Or should I just skip to Tiberium Wars? Never fucked with C&C only classic RTS series I haven't fucked with.
>>
>>321345708
yes to all 3 if you enjoy classic RTS
>>
>>321343636
Fuck you.

>>321344389
>SAM fields, not ASF blobs
Especially useful if you have air dominance.
Just use them as you would any high-mobility experimental.

Oh, wait, there's only one! THIS one!

Asswashers are love, asswashers are life.
>>
>>321345708
they are very much worth playing (but will likely have some technical issues on new machines, especially with resolutions)
>>
>>321346109
Alright will get the first three C&C games and Red Alert 2. Was only asking if the situation with them is like...Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander. SC makes TA obsolete.

>Large scale as well
>More units
>Higher diversity between factions
>Better in secondary departments like graphics, story/campaign, too
>>
>>321345708
Absolutely worth playing the older ones, yes, especially Tiberian Sun. They've all aged really well, mechanically speaking.

Visually, they've aged about as well as Starcraft and Heroes of Might and Magic.

Who else plays this new C&C Generals clone?

Also why did C&C die?

Not necessarily real time but which 4X style space game do you think is the best?

>Alpha Centauri
>Sins Of A Solar Empire
>Galactic Civilizations II
>Master Of Orion 2

With addons/expansions taken into consideration, too, of course.

Vote and discuss!

Alright you fagets, give it to me straight

Is Planetary Annihilation worth buying? What about its DLC?
>>
>>321346138
but it's worse than T3 Strategic Bombers tho
it's usage is to let the enemy get a blob outside their AA zone and then remove said blob OR to draw fire so the much more useful T3 Bombers can get the real work done
>>
So FAF is the only way to get most SupCom mods, right?
>>
>>321346715
I've heard Titans is worth playing; regular PA is not. I'm considering buying it right now too
>>321346816
yeah pretty much
>>
>>321346358
>SupCom makes TA obsolete
Not too sure about that since the meta is different for each game and that's up to taste, but the FAF community have made SupCom a really competitive and much more interesting, well-polished game.

Unlike TA and SupCom, the CnC games are very enjoyable single-player games with great campaigns.
Sure, you could always throw down a skirmish and compstop in the Chris Taylor games, but there's no narrative impetus and the AI's not that smart.

Also consider picking up Dune 2000 and Emperor: Battle for Dune. Westwood games kick ass.
>>
>>321346715

You're better off just buying Sup Com forged alliance IMO

>>321346884

Titans is the same game with some new super units

Basically the devs jewed the kickstarter supporters by re-releasing it with content that should have been in the original.
>>
>>321346715
I got PA for 1 euro and I regret it.

It's terrible beyond terrible
>>
>>321346715
fuck no, play Supcom FA for an infinitely better experience
>>
>>321347116

oh come on its not that bad
>>
>>321347182
I went from SupCom to PA and I couldn't find a single aspect it did better.

It's not even enjoyable.
>>
>>321347095
the devs jewed the early access buyers*
the kickstarter supporters got the extra content for free
but yeah it's shitty business practice

Key thing is titans is fun where PA wasnt
>>
>>321346715
PA is bland and unbalanced.
There are no factions to mix up meta, so you're always going to do the same thing every match, and it's down to your starting position if you will win.

Also, AI is poorly designed, so it's omnipotent by nature and isn't very good at feigning stupidity without suiciding or becoming a god, making compstomp a non-option.
There's no semblance of a campaign, either, just some sequence of random battles versus said AI.

If you can look past all that and the performance problems, it's a solid 7/20 game if you're feeling generous.
>>
How does World in Conflict stand up only for single player?
>>
>>321347369
be fair man
it's a 7/10 compared to FA's 9.5/10
then it gets -1 for dev kikery, -1 for bugs and -1 for performance issues
so 8/20

I admit that I haven't played SupCom1 or FA yet. What did SupCom2 downgrade?

>>321348040
Big motherfuckin' Experimental shit everywhere. C&C keeps all their super stuff as one-of-a-kind hero units, so it was nice to have infinite hero units, in a kind of way.
>>
>>321348551
What did what downgrade?
>>
>>321347781
It's not a bad game at all. The thing is that it took what made TA/SC unique and lessened those aspects like the scale and large option of units and whatnot. Kinda pointless because SupCom isn't good in a traditional RTS way and there's really no point in making it closer to a traditional RTS.

>>321347716
Great. Play the Soviet expansion thing, too.
>>
>>321348551
do you own supcom 1/FA?
>>
Just started Homeworld since its been sitting in my backlog for ages. Unsure of how exactly units are supposed to be used and the best formations but i can say that the 3D map is pretty great. Do any other RTS games do something like the 3D map or anything else a little different
>>
>>321348551
go play FA right now

the scale of Supcom2 is tiny as balls compared to the others, the economy system got ruined, the unit tiers got replaced with a shitty upgrade system

just go play FA anon, do it for us
>>
>>321348231
Yeah, you'll have a blast then. If you liked one Westwood RTS, you'll like them all.
and then weep

>Dune HD when?
Probably never since EA gobbled it up, is full of jews, and the Dune rights are long expired, but it might show up on GOG someday.
Or maybe as some free Origin thing nobody will know or care about.

Crossing fingers for EBFD on GOG.
>>
>>321348678
>>321348704
I'm getting SupCom 1 + FA tomorrow. Don't worry.
>>
>>321348551
SupCom 1 is better in every way than SupCom 2, it even aged extremely well graphics wise and mechanics-wise it's the best simulated RTS out there. Go pirate it, get the FA Forever lobby client and play that shit online or alone.

Watch this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HntJOWUFkIM
Or other casts of Gyle. SupCom 1 FA is awesome when played by pro's. The amount of shit they pull off is insane.
>>
>>321348839
why tomorrow?
>>
>>321348929
I'm on a fight right now.
>>
>>321348551
SupCom2 scales down the scope of SupCom. Research is a growing special meter that you use to unlock upgrades and unit types.

You can really only get a few hundred units on the field, and buildings take up your unit cap.

Experimentals aren't really battlefield collossi anymore. They're just big units with big guns (or special abilities), and some are total shit.

Maps are generally smaller.

A lot of older units have been crunched down into a smaller variety of types. There are more generalist units, fewer specialists.

No more ghetto gunships.

------------

Supreme Commander is a game where you count your resource intake in hundreds of thousands of units per second. You also basically have no unit cap.

You have access to "experimental" units that are literal islands upon themselves.

Literally anything is possible.

------------

All said, SupCom2 is a good RTS. It's a bad supreme commander game.

>>321349080
I hope you win anon

Original SupCom + FA (Gold Edition) is only $3.99 right now on steam
>>
>>321348551
>Big motherfuckin' Experimental shit everywhere.

That's an awesome thing about SupCom in general, the game-enders are really fucking cool.
And if you liked that, you might like Forged Alliance for the same reason.

The economy system will take some getting used to, but you might like the bigger scope as compared to SupCom2.
Levels are bigger, there's more mechanical depth, etc.
It's one of those solid stand-by games that you can appreciate going back to, even if you never get around to playing it at a high level.
>>
>>321349301
I wish the vanilla campaign worked through FAF consistently
Vanilla campaign is neat but Vanilla pathfinding is irredeemable
though
>play through FAF
>no t1 mass fabricators
>>
>>321348695
I think Homeworld had a few not-so-great imitators, but it's kind of a unique feature among RTS games.
3D navigable areas are just Homeworld's thing and no one has done it since.

Not even the submarine RTS games of the time bothered with 3D stuff.
The general consensus was the the controls would be too complicated.
>>
>>321346726
>use asswasher to draw fire
It's a powerful decoy in some practices, but not a great meatsheild. Too expensive for that.

This is how it works: your opponent sees the asswasher in LOS unguarded, and the first thing they'll want to do is send their ENTIRE ASF BLOB after it, because it has tons of health. So you use it as a decoy and show, retreat, and exploit.
Then, yeah, send in the strats to feast unchallenged on the tears of slow, ponderous experimentals or unshielded commanders.

If they don't go for the bait, just bring your decoy asswasher back around and harass some stuff on the ground. They'll have to bite eventually.
>>
>>321350728
The problem with the asswasher/T3 strat combo is that good shielding and SAMs can shut it down whereas with the CZAR it just means it crashes where/when you want it to

In both situations you should be baiting out their ASF blob to eliminate it but with the CZAR if you eliminate their ASF blob you've won by default
>>
>>321351007
The donut is also very slow, making it particularly susceptible to mobile T2 flak and even gunships.
It's kind of a trade-off. Do you want to bait and switch or full-on sacrifice?

Besides, if you're Seraphim, where would you get a donut? Some games do last beyond T1 arty spam, and chickens can't do everything.
