Game of the year overall would be Bloodborne. It has the best Souls gameplay to date, in my opinion, and the visuals, music, sound design, combat design, creature design, boss design, level design, everything is just masterfully crafted. It went in my top 10 games overall, not just this year.
Runner up would be Witcher 3. While the gameplay isn't that good (still amazing comparing to other open world RPGs), the story and quest design really make up for everything. So as an adventure story game, Witcher 3 is the best I've played, probably ever. Never have I been so invested in a video game story, with characters being fleshed out so much and so likeable. I actually felt a bit sad when I finished it and roamed the empty world.

Xenoblade really took me by surprise. I was worried about all of the complaints the Japanese brought forward but aside from a few nitpicks it's probably one of the best games I've ever played. It brought out a childlike wonder in me, and I have fun just running around grabbing shit for HOURS.

If you need your JRPGs to be story-focused then you probably won't like it. The narrative kind of gets placed on the backburner for the majority of the game in favor of gameplay. The story that's there is decent, if basic, and the characters are somewhat shallow (but likeable). It's mostly about exploration (with tons of side quests to facilitate said exploration), combat, and customizing your character build. Oh and after dozens of hours you get a mech that drastically alters how you play the game.
