One of the biggest things I hate about Binding of Isaac is that items are extremely important and can make or break your game.
I love how Nuclear Throne circumvents this by balancing guns by their ammunition, accuracy or how dangerous they are to use (self damage from explosives).

Y.V. is probably one of the easiest characters to pick up and do well with. He is essentially a better muscle in every way. At least when I last played a month ago he was.
My personal favorite character is probably chicken, just because I enjoy melee weapons in this game and chicken starts with one. There is something satisfying about beating big dog with just a hammer.

I find the perk system to be one of the best around, the only one I prefer more is in DoomRL, and that one has different priorities.
Every perk synergises with some character's passive or active ability, other perks, crowns, or ammo types. The selection is just right to take your characters into unexpected directions, while offering decent control over your build.
Is it only me, or is Steroids the most OP character in the game? You can rush through the game without problems, if you get atleast few ammo mutations for him.

except crossbows and sluggers (and their variations) are great weapons in literally every other level but Labs. explosive weapons, which can be great, are also a no for Labs, because of the swarming enemies.
it forces you to pick shittier weapons, which will then hurt you every level after until you find something better again.

The labs is late-game. It's your own fault if you don't have an appropriate weapon or Trigger Finger to let you fire faster by then.

sluggers, crossbows and explosive weapons are "appropriate weapons", they're great weapons for every other level in the game, including the throne. The Labs just forces you to pick a shittier weapon just to get through it and that's stupid.

I know there's an online multiplayer mod for the early version of Nuclear Throne, Wasteland Kings. It included some fixes for the game in general too. There isnt as much stuff in it (there's only four mutants: Fish, Crystal, Eyes, and Melting) and the game loops after 3-3. I don't have the time to find it but I think you can just google it.
Bought both the PC and PSN versions and I love playing this while I walk around in Pillars of Eternity. Everything is just so fun in it, and it's my second favorite roguelite (after Isaac).
I only wish the PS4 version had a better UI. It sucks that the default option in every fucking menu is going back to the main menu, instead of Retry and Continue.
