Did I screw up? Do you only have a certain amount of tries to get the item before statues attack you? Was there something I missed and shouldn't have broken the original one?
> Is this some Weeping Angel type shit?
>>
>>321258024
those statues are other players. With DS games, all players are playing on their own "server" or world and can only interact with each other when summoned or invading.

Occasionally you'll see ghosts of people around bonfires right? Those are other players in their world that happen to be in the same areas as you.

Those statues? That's what happens if you stand in the clouds/mist those googley eyed fucks spit at you. You become a petrified statue and you become cursed. Your HP is permanently reduced by a fraction.

Oh.

That's less spooky than I thought.

Guess I just had really weird placement of other players so it looked like a scripted event.

yo don't spoil it too hard, getting cursed for the first time is both a soul crushing and hilarious experience
>>

>tfw go through the whole depths and blighttown with the curse
I had to look up how to remove it when I got to Quelaag, it was pretty hard getting one-shot by basically everything on my first playthrough
>>
>>321258024
I really wish this wasn't fake. I mean, I've had statues just show up where before there were none, but it was always after I died or fast-traveled. I'm really glad you didn't bitch at the game, though, OP. But yeah, the statues are kinda spooky.
>>
>be me

Fuck off reddit
>>
>>321261056
I got confused and thought that their might be an item in New Londo because there was ghosts there. After a couple of hours I almost stopped playing
>>
>>321261280
Well you weren't wrong. You can harm the ghosts while cursed and there's an NPC who can cure it for you.
>>
>>321260226
Agreed. Multiplayer works way better.
>>
>>321260853

Getting cursed for the first time. FUCK!

But op is quite dumb. Cant you realize that the "statues" are petrified people?

I mean, I didnt know about the "other players got petrified here" stuff for a While, but I got very clearly that Petrifed people + New enemy is a way to say enemy petrifies you.

Basic game design
>>
>>321261548
OP was clearly disturbed that the statue appeared in a place he had already checked.
>first time he was there: no statue
>second time he was there: statue

Obviously he didn't know that it was other players being petrified. Who would?
>>
I got really Lucky my first time around.

Got cursed, said fuck It, Lets explore somewhere else. I alreasy had my ass kicked by respawning skellies, so Lets go into the sunken City. Got a bunch of transient curses without knowing. Enough to survive new londo

Being cursed does allow you to harm the ghosts, as well as the transient curse items

It happens, though Souls games are all about persevering, so if you keep soldiering on you will ge through it eventually

I've read so many storied about people quitting too early that it's just sad...

>a guy quit when getting rekt by Berenik knight in the church over and over
>a guy quit because he couldn't kill Taurus
>tons of people quit when they couldn't beat Quelaag
>a guy quit DeS since he couldn't defeat the red eye spear knight
>a guy quite because Tower Knight is "artificial difficulty"
>a guy quit when he couldn't beat Cleric Beast
>a guy quit when he didn't know where to go after Gascoigne

These stories don't even make me angry anymore. Just very, very sad.
>>
OP here
>>321261548
I didn't see a single statue until a few minutes after I killed every enemy. It was perfectly aligned with a door and looked placed by the devs. After breaking it the next time I went through the room 3 more had appeared in a perfect circle. I honestly thought it was something in the game and I'd angered some statue monster.

>>321260853
So is a curse an Insta kill or what? The merchant in Undead Burg aqueduct was selling an item to cure it, should I stick up on them? They were pretty expensive.

>>321261189
It's not fake, I swear there was one off the main path, and then 3 apoeared in the adjacent room (which I'd been in 3 times by then). Scared the shit out of me because I though they were going to keep multiplying and/or move if I turned my back.
>>
>>321262962
>So is a curse an Insta kill or what
find out for yourself ;) just know that you don't wanna get cursed and yeah a couple of those items would be useful
>>
>>321262962
OP don't worry, the statues are a normal part of the game. When someone else playing the game is petrified, there is a chance that a statue of them will appear in YOUR game where they were petrified. And yeah, curse is instant death and halves your health bar until you dispel it.

Remember fighting the gargoyles, when you rung the bell and came back down and there was that dude in a black suit waiting at the bottom of the ladder? He sells items to cure the curse at half price, only 3000 souls
>>
I wish Curse was harder to avoid in DaS. Even DaS2, where the story is about being cursed, barely even tried to Curse you aside from those jars and the last boss
>>
>there are people who legitimately ever got cursed in Dark Souls

Unforgivable even on your first play-through.

Seriously, get good.
>>
>>321263183
> Remember fighting the Gargoyles and rung the bell

No, should I have rung a bell by now? I went up like the guy said, but the gate was locked, so I went down and killed Capra Demon and I assumed after the area I'm in now would go up into the basement of the church and I could open the gates from inside and meet up with Onion man making the levels all connected.

I'm now assuming I walked past something important.
>>
>>321263696
>fall down hole
>surrounded by frog monsters
>see statues of other people and get spooked
>due to having never experienced cursing am wearing gear with shitty curse protection
>get cursed without even realising what is happening
>forced to play with half health and no obvious way to cure yourself

Cursing in DaS is extremely unfair and far too harsh a punishment for falling down a small hole
>>
>>321262001
.....where would you go after Gascoigne?.....hypothetically....
>>
>>321264379
You need to get to Amelia to proceed.

This requires to either get a "key" item to unlock a gate in Cathedral Ward, which is bought for 10k after defeating the Cleric Beast, or by opening the tiny door at the chapel (to the right of the lantern), to go down the Church Workshop and open a different gate from the other side. This requires you to kill the Bloodstarved Beast, which is in Old Yharnam, which is reached by exploring Cathedral Ward

So in short - either kill Cleric Beast or kill Bloodstarved Beast
>>
>>321262001
>a guy quit when getting rekt by Berenik knight in the church over and over

b-but he has literally one attack and its slow and telegraphed as fuck, there's no way this is real.

>>
>>321264379
Well for starters it's a linear path to Oedon Chapel, and then you explore, finding a couple locked gates and one way to progress.

One of these gates can be unlocked with the Hunter Chief Emblam (which assuming you killed Cleric Beast is avalbile for 10,000 Echos in the dream).

But most people just follow the path into Old Yharnam which gives the player a direction to explore and another boss to kill, upon killing the boss another door opens and more progress can be made.
>>
>>321264754
It's ridiculous how easily people claim "artificial difficulty" these days

This was on 4chan as well, /v/ or /vg/, don't remember
I remember some anon even went in depth on how absolutely "bullshit" it is that you have to "trial and error" the beginning of DaS1 (when you get to Firelink) and how it's not obvious where you need to go and so on. It was hilariously sad.

I can't imagine what's happening on reddit/magefaqs/other casual forums

>>
>>321270969
I found her to be much harder than Gargoyles on my first playthrough, took me a long time to beat her. I didn't understand humanity or summoning and only had like a +3 weapon I think, so it took fucking forever to actually kill her.
>>
>>321270969
I always got stuck between her legs and got fucked up by the shockwave.

Eventually I got fed up, went unhollow, defeated maneater girl on the way to the boss and summoned her to the fight, it was a breeze
>>
>>321270969
Boss difficulty is very subjective and varies from person to person, as most bosses require different mentalities and executions.

For example, many people die a lot on Bed of Chaos, but I saw my friend beat it first try on his first playthrough

It's not a very good Souls game, but a good game overall. It has a ton of content and is familiar to any Souls player
You might find it sluggish and clunky at times, but it has some fun bosses and fights in it, as well as a ton of weapons and armour variety.

It is similar but with some adjustments to stats, weapons and more reasonable enemy placements, some visual improvements too

The gameplay itself is very much the same though, so if that put you off then SotFS won't save it

Simply make sure to get some Agility (which is increased by Adaptability), at least 105 or so, and you'll be good

I started DaS a couple days ago and I just got out of the Depths. So far the hardest thing has been killing the first Black Knight. I lamed him out with projectiles after dying several times and got his sword, but since then I haven't really run into any issues. The sword he dropped is still destroying everything; I only died once to Capra since it plowed through his health so fast. The Titanite Demon was tough too, but that was mostly because of all the debris on the floor making it harder to get behind it.

I know it'll get more difficult and that I've barely even started, but it doesn't seem like the gameplay itself will change much at this point. The weapon variety doesn't feel that great, but maybe that's because I can't find a decent replacement for the Black Knight Sword yet. It's not really satisfying to smack around a bunch of boring enemies that feel like they have no weight with a weapon that feels weightless as well. About the only thing that feels like it has weight is my character due to all the heavy armor ruining his roll animation. I don't really want to explore this depressing world anymore either and the backtracking doesn't help. Is it worth it to keep going?

It was commonly used instead of other states like
>be in mall
>be with person
>be mexican

And "be me" was usually added to ridiculous or stupid stories implying "man am I stupid" or something along those lines, or when there was nothing else to start the greentext with

I might be looking too far behind, but that's how I remember it

What's that one spot you always go back to invade?

For me, it's the top of Sen's Funhouse

I found New Londo ruins to be terrifying, and it was just because of stupid ghosts. Somehow this places atmosphere really draw me in. The moment I heard the first ghost with her baby shriek I must gotten one year older.

new gamers are not used to be challenged anymore by a game so they easily give up on it and call it to hard or artificial difficulty now
for example I tried dungeons 2 (got it gifed) yesterday where I lost a key unit and got dialog that there spawned a new one on accident. In a old game I would have to replay the whole level again and no get my key units auto respawned by accident because I fucked up

fyi I finished the game with the BKS+pyromancies on my first playthrough so you don't necessarily need to upgrade.

As for whether you should keep going, I literally don't give a shit.

Black Knight weapons are endgame, with the only drawback being okay-ish scaling and high stat requirements.
So yes, it will carry you through the entire game, the only way to get a "better" weapon is to invest 40 points into a main stat and get a weapon that scales we will it to +15. Otherwise the Black Knight Sword will destroy everything no problem

By the way you described it you seem to not be enjoying the game too much so I honestly do not see any reason to continue, especially if you wish to keep the black knight weapon

I think this actaully could be the best explanation. That dragon in the valley of drakes got somehow cut in half, and so the upper part resides there and the lower part (which can live on its own as proved in painted world) fell down into the swamps and then probably wandered to lost izalith where it was corrupted by chaos

OP here.

I just finished Blightown, oddly enough I didn't die once, but it took me 2.5 hours and 8 Humanity. Finding the second bonfire in the cave was the greatest feeling of relief I have experienced in a long time.

I found a heap of items, but I did not find a boss, or a Bell which was supposed to be at the base. I just ended up back at FireLink via an elevator.

Return to that bonfire, exit the "cave" and head right, across the swamp

Using it is a direct correlation to redit, It literally started because redit couldn't keep their cancerous memes to themselves.
