Why are there no good 3D platformers anymore?
>>321250316
FUCK YOU CRYSTAL DYNAMICS
HE'S OWNED BY THE GOOKS NOW
>>321250316
>>321250690
Is that game good? Should I go buy it?
>>321250535
I want variety back
>>321250690
Thanks anon.
Rareware will be reborn as Playtonic, and that is good
Because all of those games are boring as fuck collect-a-thons.
>>321250791
Anon...
>>321250796
kindly off yourself brother
>>321250316
>nuts & bolts
Because there have never been any good 3D platformers.
>>321250316
>modern Banjo
>modern Sonic
>modern Crash
>modern Conker
>better than CoD
lmfao senpai
>>321251015
completely missed the point of the image
>>321250316
>all those dead IPs
>>321250987
Ok
>>321250316
None of them decided to have good gameplay and instead focus on single jump or the ever boring "single jump into airfloat" shit.
SM64 is still the best 3d platformer when it comes to raw platforming an movement and that's fucking sad
>>321250316
But Ratchet and Clank still exists
fuck your collectathons and their shallow gameplay
>>321250796
Underage b&
>>321250316
Dude, just play Skylanders
>>321251120
Oh do tell.
>>321251260
Rachet and Clank is NOT a platformer anymore.
Also different people like different things, everyone knows the SNES era was the golden age for raw platforming but the first 3d era wasn't bad at all. Spyro 2, Crash 2, and Rayman 2 all god-tier games
>>321251539
It's purely about variety. Seems like it was made when COD was on top of the gaming world and these guys were basically all washed up vets. There's nothing hinting that those games are 'better' in any way.
>>321251260
>fuck your collectathons and their shallow gameplay
Oh yeah. I forgot modern games need 2deep4u stories, day 1 dlc, and modern day references to keep the game "fresh".
>>321251553
Ratchet and clank still has platforming, the shooting elements just got more competent alongside it
>tfw they will never release any of the Looney Tunes platformers on Steam.
Because they aren't profitable to make. How do you add micro transactions to them? Plus they probably take longer to make
>>321252019
I know that feel. This was my favorite game back in the day,
because video games are focused on the dudebro audience, and they don't want to play "kiddie shit"
And most kids just play/watch FPS and shit like FNAF or Minecraft.
And if they launch something like that, is a endless runner on android/iphone
There's no room for cartoony characters anymore besides nintendo.
>>321250316
>sonic front and center
>mario not even in the image
How autistic was the person who made this?
>>321252329
my guess is that its because unlike the other characters, Mario has never been 'forgotten' by the mainstream. his games are always top-sellers for their system.
>>321251730
>variety
>collectathons
Oh so I gave this image more credit than it deserves.
Got it.
>>321252632
>kingdom hearts kid more iconic than PS2 mascot platformers
autism
>>321250316
>that kazooie
oh god what have the done to you
>>321252632
>mascots
found your problem, mascots died in 2000s
>>321250316
Reminder Banjo-Threeie was canceled specifically because companies thought no one cared about platformers
if we had gotten Banjo 3 from original Rare just after the MS buyout instead of it being converted into lego cars, the gaming landscape would be pretty different I imagine.
I doubt I am the only one who saw Nuts & Bolts as the nail in the coffin of the platforming genre.
R&C only survived this long because it calls itself a third-person shooter series instead of a platformer.
Where's Jak 4? Where's Blinx 2? Where's Crash? Where's Spyro? Where's Medievil 3? Where's Gex? Where's Voodoo Vince? All dead.
>>321253180
>if we had gotten Banjo 3 from original Rare just after the MS buyout instead of it being converted into lego cars, the gaming landscape would be pretty different I imagine.
If Banjo-Tooie couldn't save platforming, why would Banjo 3 make any difference?
>>321252878
you have the most shallow idea of what those games do, so I'm going to assume you're just shitposting and haven't played them.
>>321253417
Tooie wasn't a platformer though, it was an adventure game
Banjo 3 would have been a platformer
>>321253417
Lots of people considered Tooie to be every bit as good as the previous game though. It depends entirely on who you ask. Threeie would have sold well since it had NO competition in its native genre at the time of the buyout. But because no one ELSE was trying to corner the Platformer market, MS execs figured they were 'just a fad' and said Threeie wouldn't work out, then they added lego cars to help you ignore the massive, sprawling, detailed levels with fuck-all inside them.
>empty paths to nowhere with no items or anything to do
>fully complete combat animations that you pretty much never need
>references to kids not wanting to play "collectathons" anymore because they want Call of Duty
>Comic fucking Sans font
>>321252901
Are you high, Sony is very iconic
>>321253736
>Lots of people considered Tooie to be every bit as good as the previous game though.
If a game as good as Tooie couldn't help the dying platforming genre, then how would another sequel help?
>>321253865
Kingdom hearts has never been anything but a niche franchise
Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter are way more iconic
>>321253865
>Sony
Kek, you know what I meant
when I was a kid, reading reviews lauding realistic graphics got me crazy with excitement. now, the more realistic a game is, the less likely I am to play it. there was this level of peak "realism", where things still looked like a game, only better. now it looks like the same shit I can see on tv, or outside my window.
also, where is the fun? I mean, there is a lot of excitement in FPSs and grimdark open world games, but that shit is not giggling, grinning, goofy fun. What happened to the over-the-top goofy good time? and, much as I love Borderlands, can I get some of that without the violence?
>>321253913
because when Tooie came out, the genre did not need saving.
the 'boom' ended because the race to make a more memorable mascot to topple Mario ended with no fanfare. a bunch of knockoffs and no victor, Mario continued to be #1 without any competition
>>321253935
I totally disagree. Kingdom Hearts was massive, back in the 00's. itd died down because Square doesn't make games, anymore. they just publish other people's games and re-release shit on mobile.
>>321254031
At least we have Yooka-Laylee to look forward to
>>321253935
Both KH and KH2 has sold more than any game in either of those franchiseesStop pretending you know things
>>321250535
~*ART*~

>im going to assume someone on 4chan has never played ratchet and clank, ty, pac man, toe jam and earl, rayman, crash, conker, sonic, banjo, spyro, croc, or gekko and call you names since i think youre wrong
mhm. never played a single game any of those characters have been in. not one.
>>321254353
it's kind of insane to think how insane that game's popularity was back in the day. It basically made a whole new generation interested in JRPGs.
