The Gen 4 Frontier has five facilities, the Tower, Hall, Factory, Castle, and Arcade. Each has their own ruleset and all of them besides the Tower have rules that you don't experience elsewhere in the game, making them unique challenges.
The Maison is literally just the Battle Tower. They try to fluff it up as more than just that because they have different trophies and bosses for each battle mode but it's literally just the Tower, ruleset-wise. There are four facilities in Gen 4 that have no representation whatsoever in Gen 6.
ORAS not having the Gen 3 Frontier is even worse, since that one has seven facilities that each have special rules, all unique to the game other than the Tower, and the Maison again only covers the Tower.

Level scaling is not much better. Whitney has lower levels, for crying out loud. They did some fixes but gym leaders still have bizarre teams (what the fuck falkner) and the wild pokemon are still way too weak for the end of johto.
Kanto having more stuff was nice, but the copied BF was lazy. Platinum waa so good though, so I don't blame them.
