Well the most basic advice I can give you is lrn2combo. You can either set everything up before you start the chain or work on it on the fly.
Also, you should always be on the lookout for more blocks to line up. If you can't spot them after enough practice, there's no hope for you
Predict the upcoming rows, predict the garbage drops when they change to panels, and practice high combos in endless mode.
You are now a master of the entire series.

That just sounds dumb and casual. The amount of blocks on screen is a resource you have to manage, and there's a risk/reward dynamic between getting a high combo and raising the stack too high and putting yourself in danger. Being able to raise the stack during combos removes all that. You can just keep the stack five blocks high and drop an infinite combo.
