I think the fight scenes in IBO are great.
Their issue is pacing, you'll have 2 episodes of really well animated and choreographed combat, but then you pay the price by having 3 episodes of sitting around talking about family and shit. Although considering the theme of Gundam for the past 35 years has been 'understanding', family is a nice change.
It also gets bonus points for throwing in Turbine's harem into the intro so he's no longer mysterious fedora man. Also, that little girl realising that there's the concept of a harem and easing up on Kudelia becase she sees her as a romantic partner, rather than rival.

I only found the ending of CCA more tolerable in comparison because the Newtype bullshit was just a miracle that Amuro inadvertently activated while pushing back Axis. Whereas Unicorn had Banana doing something just as amazing by pushing a button.
