I really like the tweaks and bonus content in the SMA series. If it wasn't for the horrible sound quality, I'd consider them the best version of the series.

Actually you can scan in the e-Reader levels in no$gba. There are even converted versions of the Japan-only levels and switches that can be scanned into the English version via this method.
In Japan, they just confirmed that e-Reader emulation will be in the VC version of SMA4. I'm really hoping they retain that in the western version and finally release all the missing Japanese levels.But they'll probably just use the EU ROM which has all e-Reader menus disabled.

Yoshi's Island for GBA has one more level per world.
Although some might like this, the red coins look exactly like regular coins now so hunting them might be a little more of a pain, even if they are still in mostly obvious places. Also Yoshi has the voice he had in Yoshi's Story which can be grating.

When I was a dumb kid, I didn't even realize this was a port. I wasn't too familiar with mario 2. I played mario 2 briefly in the past but didn't fucking make the connection and just bought any game with mario on it.
I mean, since I didn't play the original to completion, I did like this game, but I would have been extremely disappointed if I payed full price for one third of all stars.
And in retrospect it was lazy as fuck. Barely any new content, at least they could have done something with the yoshi eggs

NSMB wasn't bad compared to the others, and was somewhat unique for a 2D Mario. NSMBW was kinda bland, though it's a modding sandbox with more options than SMM's NSMB mode so that's a plus if you're into that, and 2 was horrible. U is extremely easy, but the Luigi version fixes that somewhat.

The GBA ports also made the save feature in all three games way more accessible. The graphics and music are a step down, but the game just feels like a more convenient, hassle-free experience to me.
