Well you get projectile attacks and subweapons pretty early on. But if the fundamental parts of the gameplay aren't fun for you, there's probably not much that can be done to help. Pirate's Curse is the most polished one to date, so the others probably won't be any better for you. Do you usually like metroidvanias?

RR and SatPC's sprites are the same style/resolution, but have different artists working on the portraits. HGH's sprites are higher res/hand drawn, but are proportionally similar to RR and SatPC's.

Should I get SatPC on PC? I played all of them back to back for the first time ever on my 3ds a few months ago, loved the shit out of them.
My only gripe is, while the spritework and backgrounds are amazing in all of them, only the first game really had any difficulty to the dungeons and ESPECIALLY the over world. Holy shit, traversing from town to town without warping was a nightmare.

It feels nothing like MSF for whatever reason. I think it's due to how zoomed out it is, the cheap backgrounds, and the fact that it doesn't even feel like an academy. I mean really, why no Patty in the academy uniform with some sort of training stun gun, along with replacing everything with training material (enemies are robots, sisters are dummies, etc).
Not to mention the lack of HD assets, no level editor/creator, no online co-op, and so on.
