The thing is, combat like this requires absolute control of both arms, both legs, and the torso, PLUS vision of the entire battle. You can't really do it with shitty QTE/counter/attack/block controls.

Questions like this are what led to quick time events. You simply can't have fluid and seamless animations like this alongside responsive controls. The startup animations for a lot of those attacks is much too long.

Of course, games will never have fluid combat like we see in choreographed action scenes because they rely on the layer's input.
