Killing them or being friends with them doesn't phase me, because they just don't feel that alive to me to begin with. The only reason I played was to just beat the game, I finished all of the endings without being phased.

Being attached to Toriel really doesn't make a lot of sense. The scenario was written to make her endearing. But also, the uncertainty of her actions made her suspect. And the lengths she goes to, in order to try and get to you stay with her is a bit unsettling.
Sure, her motives make sense when you get to know the situation. However, the actual time you spend with her is very short, and sparse.
Getting attached to her really doesn't make sense. Unless you had some kind of emotional deficiency.

Not everyone everyone likes a game because it's popular, most play games because they are actually good. And it's easy to tell when someone's just calling themselves a "fan" so they can get attention and a real fan. (One way being that real fans love to bitch, discus, complain and speculate about what they love.)
I started playing Pokemon WAY after it got popular and guess what? I actually enjoyed it enough to play the other games, and I enjoyed most of them too.
I might have slightly different opinions about that series than people who played it since the beginning but that doesn't make me any less of a fan.
