It's a mixture of the western setting and surprisingly well written characters, along with solid battle systems, challenging bosses and really good dungeon puzzles reminiscent of Zelda where you have to use each characters unique field abilities to get through.
The only thing that might bring it down for you is that the actual plotlines are anime as fuck, but at least they tend to have plenty of twists and turns and the characters can carry them.

You can try the old ones and see if you like them, if not try the later entries. 3, 5 and the remake are the best WA games.
