why does /v/ know so much about history
>Sup Consul will never be an actual game
>>321168010
I love history, it always was my favorite subject and always will be.
It's the reason i frequent /int/ a lot too.
Since i'm interested in modern day's politics too, knowing history is necessary to understand them. Also it's fun to blow /pol/fags the fuck out since everyone that thinks like them clearly hasn't studied enough history and doesn't get how the world worked at all.
History is super interesting, i believe no fantasy plot can ever hope to be as interesting as what actually happened in our world.
It's a shame that finding a job where a knowledge of history is needed is nearly impossible, if i could study nothing else i would study history for ever.
>>321168010
Because we're neckbearded NEETS who have nothing better to do but to read history. Total War and autism simulators probably help.

Caligula is clearly an early game Emperor, you let it drag on long enough and your own team can declare on you
>>321169181
>Claudius is underrated.
No. He's rated fairly, the only reason people like him is because he's a "saint" in comparison to every other Judo-Claudian sans Augustus. People always mention how he managed to take Britannia, as if he himself had much to do with it. Claudius exploited executions and biased judicial trials just as much as Tiberius.

Theres only 3 emperors worth mention. Julius, who started the whole shit, Marcus Aurelius, who set shit into as near perfect condition as could be done, and Nero for sending it (if not being entirely the reason) behind the downfall of rome

What a narrow minded fag. You should always try to empathize and entertain foreign ideas, that way you improve your own by testing them, and maybe occasionally finding them lacking.
Now Epicurus is where its at. 18 times per night, lads.

>christian hating
Marcus never persecuted Christians.
He did say he thought they were fanatics but wasn't like Nero or Diocletian

Yeah, it just wasnt an empire at all long before that. Turks and Bulgars made sure to trim it.

The two facts we know are the following:
>he didnt like christianity and didnt respect christians
>repression and persecution of christians increased during his reign
Everything else is speculation, but I dont think its unreasonable to assume he did act against them, or allowed others to do so.
>>321164626

Territory and power do not define an empire. As long as it retained independence and the Emperor's office it remained Rome.
These threads pop up from time to time and are always so full of great ideas it really makes me wonder why the ancient Roman empire isn't used as a setting for more shit outside of strategy games.
>>321170746
>Territory and power do not define an empire.
Yes, they do. If you want to be an empire, you have to be a group of distinct states/peoples that are ruled by a single monarch.
For the longest time The Roman Empire was basically slang for The Greek Kingdom.
>>321170586
I think it's more likely the roman population wanted more christians to die because of all the pestilence and wars that were raging in those days.
Marcus probably let regional subordinates kill christians to calm down the populations a bit.
I have a soft spot for Marcus but i don't think that christian hate fits with his character at all.
It's more likely that he just let people kill christians instead of him to clam spirits down rather than him hating christians.
>>321170746
I think those are the textbook definitions of what is physically an empire and how well it is run
>>321170376
Wasn't roman
Wasn't an empire
nice try
>>321170246
Nero's death caused the Flavian dynasty, and had 4 people shouting which of them was the real emperor. Wasn't the end, but almost immediately threw a wrench into what was supposed to be a golden empire
>>321170746
The bizantine empire was but a shadow of his former glory, it had basically nothing similiar to the original roman empire.
It's more correct to call the bizantine empire a succesor of the eastern roman empire, not of the roman empire alltogether
>>321170865
That is not how proper titular succession works. To become an empire in the first place, yes, you're correct. Binding together multiple lands and ethnic groups under a single ruler is how you create an empire. You do not need to retain them to retain the authority.
Once an empire is forged it only dies when it's either conquered by another power or the last legitimate ruler dies with no one left to succeed them. Byzantium could have been reduced to only Constantinople and it would still be an empire.
>Constantine is a stance fighter
>During the beginning of the fight, he plays like the other emperors
>As he fights he builds up his meter
>When his meter is all the way, he can activate his ultimate ability: Divine Guidance
>A cutscene plays in which the clouds separate and a beam of light shines down on Constantine
>Constantine's armor transforms, a cross is painted on his shield, his Roman general outfit becomes that of a Byzantine emperor
>Constantine's name changes to Saint Constantine I the Great, Equal-to-the-Apostles
>His moveset completely changes, his stats are increased, he is powered by Christianity itself
>>321170850
The regressive left reign supreme and anything remotely Roman would be shunned as 'racist' or 'patriarchal' so companies won't usually touch it. It's also easier to create your own generic fantasy world than it is to make something like an RPG historically accurate and set in the Empire.
>>321171082
>i am the emperor of the greek kingdom!!
Not an empire, regardless of what these same people wanted the definition to be, obviously including themselves.
You are basically repeating millennia old propaganda right now.
