There's kind of a problem. Its gonna be another 6 months before DQVII comes out. And anywhere from 9-12 months until DQVIII comes out. Which means it'll be well into 2017 before SquareEnix has hard data of how well the games are selling. And by that time, the 3DS successor may be named. And SquareEnix might not care about releasing the other games for 3DS (even DQXI).
We need all of them to be confirmed before 2017. Of course this is the fault of SquareEnix ignoring the series for over four years. But that won't stop SE from blaming the fans.
I just want to collect monsters and mash them together to get stronger monsters again.

I'd still argue that DQI-III had a baroque classical feel. While Dragon Quest IV-VI and on had a 20th century/jazz feel to it. And Dragon Quest VII and VIII is very 19th century classical. And Dragon Quest IX and X are totally out there like the Monster games.

I also can't see Final Fantasy ever finding that perfect balance between linear story and free roaming open world. Very few games have. Even Dragon Quest IX failed at it. Dragon Quest VIII and Red Dead Redemption are the only two I can think of.

In all seriousness, turn based is slowly making a comeback. Mostly because the western market isn't buying up all the ARPGs. Western fans have even stated they want JRPGs to return to the older turn based systems. And of course Japan is in open rebellion about all the ARPG systems clearly pandering to the west.
If FFXV and Kingdom Hearts 3 doesn't meet expectations, you can expect a huge shift back to traditional JRPGs. Sadly, we have to hope for games to fail to bring about change...

The problem is SE isn't actually giving us the series. Right now DQ7 and 8 are being published by Nintendo. So unless those DQ does well enough to get their ass up and publish DQ themselves (outside of fucking Heroes) we won't actually see any of them. Why would Nintendo publish the 3DS when it's not exclusive to them? And there's no reason for Sony to publish DQ ever.

Nintendo has said many times they want to publish all the DQ games. But SquareEnix has to localize and give them the rights to the games. Its been SquareEnix who has been blocking the games for 4 years. And SquareEnix has confirmed this in multiple interviews. Both the head of localization and SE CEO in both Europe and Japan.
Also, is their confirmation that Nintendo is publishing DQVII and VIII on 3DS? SquareEnix themselves published DQ Heroes on PS4 and PC.

Base on wiki it is but who knows if it's really true. It just makes sense for it to be Nintendo. And if it is Nintendo that is publishing it the question does come up about what is going to happen with DQ11. Nintendo really only wants to publish games that are exclusive to them like Monster Hunter. So SE will have to actually localize and publish themselves which makes me wonder if they really will.

Oh I'm not letting SE scot free. I'm just trying to think of what will happen. To me these are the what will happen. If Nintendo takes up publishing they will have an agreement with SE where they won't bring over the PS4 version. And that's IF Nintendo takes it which might not happen because they might not like the idea of it not being 100% exclusive.
Or if SE sees sales numbers they feel good with (knowing SE it's insane numbers) they will agree to publish both 3DS and PS4. Sadly those are really the two ways it's going to go about it if we see it. For all we know it's not ever going to happen which I don't want but I feel better about DQ than I have been in years so I'm actually hopeful.

I think the only real hope we have is that SquareEnix has drastically shifted its management. And a few of them have expressed interest in releasing non FF related games to the west. And Dragon Quest Heroes, VII and VIII were the first of those games.
We just have to hope that one of these new managers actually cares about the western market. And more will be coming. But if they only release DQVII and VIII and wait a year for 'sales data', it doesn't look good for any other 3DS games. Or Dragon Quest X which is now in its third year.

One good sign is at E3 at SE showing was the new CEO talking about their biggest Japanese series and said Dragon Quest. I mean SE has had that giant shift and for the most part it's been all thumbs up from me. I'm just hoping Heroes was just them finally giving us a fun side game. I just really hate how they said "we are using Heroes to test the water" when they knew DQ7 and 8 were getting localized.
As I said I'm more hopeful wiith regarding DQ than I have been in years so I am keeping my hopes up.

I think DQIII, IV, V and VIII are all equally great for different reasons. But my personal favorite is VIII.

7 is my favorite. Outside of a few bumps (as soon as you get to the temple for one) the game honestly never really lost me. And that's saying something that is over 120 hours. The game just kept giving me more and more stories to interact with and every one of them had an impact.

DQVII lost me because of the class system and some rather lengthy dialogue sequences with no real interaction.
Honestly, the biggest thing I'm looking forward to in DQVII on 3DS is character animations and reactions during dialogue. Watching an hour long dialogue between NPCs with just an emotionless sprite walking in place is kind of painful. But on the 3DS, characters have reactions and expressions. I anticipate it'll improve the game immensely.

Honestly I think how everything looked 16 bit like (yeah I know it's not but I was able to fool myself thinking they were) helped me love it. I was able to just put my mind back in the SNES days and love every moment. After all those weird 3D games with really bad voice acting I really love just reading everything and not have to worry about covering my ears. I mean the game came out in 2000 and to me DQ7 was just felt like a good game from 5+ years ago

Don't get me wrong, I definitely prefer DQVII (and Suikoden) over the 3D games on PSX. But because of its length and heavy dialogue, the older spite graphics didn't really aid the game for me.
I don't need or want voice acting. But there needs to be some level of interaction. Dragon Quest VIII did it perfectly for me. I was able to play over 100 hours of that game and never get tired of it. So I hope DQVII remake will have a similar interaction during dialogue.
Plus, Maribel is one of the most outgoing and animated characters in the series. She really needs to be more than just a sprite.

I get you. I think I was just at a weird mindset while playing Dragon Quest VII. It's like I was able to put myself back in early to mid 90's. Watching those weird sprites walking around. Trust me I can get whole something like that can turn people off but to me it heightened my enjoyment than diminish it. So it's actually going to be weird replaying it with those actual 3D models interacting with each other. But in either case I know what I'm going to be playing for the next year.
