zest was alright
it lost momentum in the last third but alisha and rose are equally boring; the real disappointment was the disappearance of the political ambiguity playing with sorey's super-traditional hero archetype, but then since when have tales games had good plots, much less for the whole game
the combat wasn't the best but it was fine. the game was comfy and entertaining and the nips sending death threats are overreacting shit-taste retards.
the only "problem" with tales is that quality is very consistently not-perfect but not-terrible in mothership games, which I personally find to be an asset in that the series is like a nice greasy cheeseburger treat where you always know what you're getting

I did like how the battle system made it really easy to swap in the whole party and make them all feel useful because of the elemental stuff. It may have simplified things but in other Tales games even when you can swap people in and out I always ended up not using certain members and felt bad about it. But in Zestiria I got to use them all often. Felt like a proper party instead of the four guys you like and the others you like less who just follow along.
They're just saying it's a prequel as an excuse to reuse assets.
