What the FUCK were they thinking locking out fucking free play with microtransactions/tokens? That was the whole fucking point, get your friends over and play all the songs you want.
RB4 had its own problems and regressed in a few areas too, but it was at least serviceable and wasn't backed by the biggest publisher in the industry.
Does anyone have a way to play 3 on PC? I've had to emulate it on ps2 but the game is only playable in practice mode. I can't find an actual torrent for the PC version.

I tried playing this out at Target today and it seemed like fun but I thought the buttons seemed too small to me. Maybe it's just because I only spent a few minutes with it but it felt like the controller in general should have been a bit bigger.

Very shit analogy. Platformers like Mario are made with the intent of having every level fun leading up to the boss. With Rhythm games, you naturally want to play the songs you like the most. Having to grind a few songs to unlock new ones is okay, but creating a shitty psychological manipulation of making artificial demand for purchasing game cash by making a manipulative system of "play all these songs you most likely don't want for a long time to save up for the brief experience of playing what you actually fucking want; or just fucking pay us money to play it when you want" is cancerous shit.

I've probably put more than 100 hours in since I got it. The only thing I hate about the game is that you have to buy powerups. I was in the top 10 for about 100 songs but now I'm dropping to the top 30 and 40 because I refuse to spend my coins on anything other than song plays.

Rock Band happily chugged along providing weekly DLC for the better part of 4/5 years or so and nobody had a problem with it.

They can only load so many songs on there before it gets expensive, those licences aren't free, I'd rather have them for a dollar or 2 then not have a song at all

The game is fucking terrible, in any case. I get they were trying to do something different to pull the plastic-guitar rhythm game genre out of the stagnation it was in, but microtransactions and removing free play, and a rather crap playlist to boot, makes the game less about enjoying the game's songs and more about grinding.
Like with Warriors of Rock and how you had to increase your star count to unlock songs: I understood that shit, because it was about you bettering your skills and achieving certain objectives in songs. That didn't bother me, and it was something to work for. Having to grind to get fucking tokens or drop more money on access to content is no better than gun rentals in F2P games.
I hate when games turn into extra work to get the base level of enjoyment out of them. Sometimes I just want to have a beer and play some rock music.
