More Metroid than Mario, this course is a big adventure with a flashy ending. It's somewhat challenging, but there are no cheap deaths. If anyone beats any of my Magikoopa courses, I'll play everything you've made. I have one new payout to deliver, then I'm probably going to call it a night.

I bookmarked some levels from the last thread (Bowser Ball looks really interesting,) I'm gonna play them tomorrow. For now, here's a quick collection of some levels I've made that all have the same theme: BRIDGES.

>"A Nice Bridge"

>"The Nicest Bridge Around" (Best looking bridge)

I made a bunch of bridge levels as a bit of a joke, my first level was 'A Nice Bridge', and I just decided to go with a similar theme for the next few levels. If any of you play these, tell me what you think. Sooner or later, I'm gonna have to join the bandwaggon and make a shmup level for the new fire clown car. Good night, /v/.

I would be guessing that its the checkpoint glitch.
A checkpoint covers a total of 4 spaces. A 2 x 2 square. However, when you die, you spawn between the bottom two spaces. This means if the bottom two spaces are buried in the ground, if you die you respawn either inside the ground, or if there is empty space, below the ground covering the checkpoint.

Basically, you can make a level where you activate the checkpoint in one area, but dying makes the checkpoint spawn you in a different area below the checkpoint.

I doubt they'll announce it in February (they'd save that announcement, along with some newcomer trailers, for E3 '16), but I guarantee it's coming. They'll want to keep Sakurai on the project as long as possible.

I figure the DLC was all just a matter of convenience.

I love this new feature. I queue levels to play during my day's commute and have a playlist rearing to go when I get home.

I did a series of levels that are tied together by their use of big Yoshi Eggs as a 3/3 Star-Coin-esque collectable. Each of the following 4 have fairly straightforward exits, but if you're willing to explore you can find 3 hidden 4-UP Eggs. Give it a try.

I plan to show the stars and number of players who attempted it (feet icon), but there's no stat for the number of players who cleared it. All the player lists (recent, cleared by, starred by) only go up to 100.

yes, it is.

it will reflect that when more people jump in, die, and quit.

I left my own opinion about this stage using Miiverse, so although i'm critical about it, i did leave a star.

I know I'm not the best at platformers, but I'm sure that with enough practice I could get through the level, but I have no reason to spend 10 minutes on your level when I could be trying out better made ones. The problem isn't that it's hard, it's that it's boring, to look at, and to play.

In the small section I saw there was nothing interesting about the design, nothing really creative going on, just walls and piranha plants, which weren't even really used effectively. You could replace the plants with the spike blocks and you'd have the same level.
>>
>>321142502
here's where i say bullshit.

that pirahna plant at the very very beginning, right over your head. you have it standing on a single piece of ground. some players like me will CONSTANTLY die to it trying to start the wall jump because too much momentum you jump over it.

another instance is you are walljumping again not too much farther in. the placement of the plants might seem like it's a fair challenge but once again, thanks to momentum, it's possible for mario to jump a little higher than predicted.

I wanted to finish this stage but the poor placement of these two areas made me go fuck it.
>>
>>321142952
When the game actually lets me use those tools to make better levels I'd actually use them. It's my first level, they don't hand out everything right away.
>>
>>321141786
Just played through that twice to check the different paths (still haven't been through all of them mind you). This level's pretty satisfying to explore, the different challenges you set the player are exciting without being overwhelming and it's always really clear what you need to do next. Followed

>>321142889
That anon makes a point, why make a long post like that? I can't speak for other anons, but I am more likely to play a stage from someone who just posts 1 or 2 links as opposed to a clusterfuck of all of their stages in one post. If you want others to play your others just link to your profile.
>>
>>321143062
>too much momentum you jump over it.
You can adjust your momentum.
>>
Updated to 1.3, now shows stars, number of players who attempted, and calculates a clear percentage for stages where the website hasn't determined the difficulty yet.

https://github.com/NoneGiven/MarioMakerLinks/blob/master/README.md

Also interesting note, difficulty is based on more than just clear percentage. It seems that if one person dies a ton on one stage, they can't single-handedly drag it down to expert despite dragging down the clear percentage.
>>
>>321143241
no shit.

but pixel perfect changes in momentum to wall jump off a block?

>>321143164

Okay, then. I'm sorry my post bothered you so much, anons. Please forgive me.

Seriously though, I'll keep it in mind once I reach 10 stages, but it's weird and anal that the structure of an imageboard post irritates you that much.

>>321143089
That's entirely your own fault, considering how quickly you can unlock that content now.
>>
>>321143370
Point out one pixel perfect anything in that level and I will buy you a game on steam. Stop over-exaggerating, the level itself was designed to be fairly forgiving. The jump when I first made it was going to be a lot worse but I altered it to be easier.

I made the level with medium-slightly hard difficulty in mind and adjusted it accordingly throughout the level during design to make sure it's fair.

It's not a case of "the plants are positioned poorly", it's just a case of you're not meant to be at full momentum. If you're used to NSMB physics you should be able to tell the trajectory and rough momentum you're supposed to jump, and the walljump is fairly lenient itself.
>>
>>321143089
So you can have more tools to use without thinking? Another boring level, but now it's got three different things that function the same as spike blocks? If you can't be bothered to put a little effort in when you have a few tools, adding more isn't really going to help. And why are you uploading levels before you unlock everything if your excuse is "b-b-b-but I don't have any other blocks n enemies n stuff"

I already pointed it out, the block above mario's head. you could bring it up one space up. and no problems ever will happen at that spot. but because when mario's max jump height instead reaches up to the plant, people will die to that plant if they fail to jump off the block. it's a very fast input with little room for error. and when you die, you have to do that again. and again.

please, stop defending your shitty first stage. people who do this generally are horrible people who start arguments trying to defend something completely subjective. it's pointless and counteractive.

Make a new stage. you can't coast off one, not even for just a day.

I just played it. You've got one-block-wide leniencies all over the place, and that's just bad design. Give your players a little more wiggle room than none at all.

The overuse of plants wasn't overstated either, you're literally just using them as [DON'T TOUCH LAVA WALL]s.

Both of those together make the stage pretty much unplayable. I'm sure you can make a good stage once you've seen more examples from others, but you've gotta realize that this isn't a good start, and your first stage never was going to be.

>So you can have more tools to use without thinking?
So I can actually make levels with interesting gameplay, anon. The key to decent level design in the first place is stick with two-three general themes and expand upon it rather than spam it with everything on your pallet. In the case of my level I just wanted to make a level that used spin-jumping in tight spaces.

>>321144195
Still not pixel perfect.

>and no problems ever will happen at that spot.
Are you saying that I should design levels to be a virtual safe space with only the illusion of difficulty?

>but because when mario's max jump height instead reaches up to the plant, people will die to that plant if they fail to jump off the block.
A player already familiar with Mario physics should know that they can't make that jump with full momentum and full height before even attempting

>it's a very fast input with little room for error.
Not really.

>and when you die, you have to do that again.
Dying is a natural part of playing video games, especially a platformer, and if you have to do that part over and over again, it's not a problem with the stage itself but with your platforming. If you die the first time because you went full momentum and full height, that should tell you to lower your height and momentum.

>stop defending your shitty first stage.
I'm not defending the stage at this point, I'm just pointing out that you're wrong. I'm not saying my stage is good by any means but to say that my level is actually hard is hilarious.

>>321144598
>You've got one-block-wide leniencies all over the place
The piranha plant's hitbox is slightly smaller than an actual block. It's less dangerous than it looks.

>>321145258
>the critic is always right

That's not how it works. Criticism is something I take in mind but that doesn't mean I actually have to impliment it. All of the complaints about the first jump just come down to "It's too hard for me, change it." Difficulty is not a design flaw.

Not one person has actually said that, though. You're interpreting people asking that your level be more forgiving as them asking for it to be casual. There's a middle ground, and if you ignore it then nobody's going to play your levels.
>>
>>321145760
My level is the middle ground. Nothing in my level required pixel perfection or near flawless gameplay. Fast reaction times? Yes, but there's never a point in the level where you're putting a thread through a needle.

Just as you're allowed to critique levels, the level designer is allowed to critique critics, senpai. The critic isn't always right and the designer isn't obligated to always listen to the critic. Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I'm blowing you off, it's just that what you see as a flaw, I don't see as a flaw.

>legitimate complaints

A legitimate complaint would be pointing out an actual objective flaw in the design. So far all I've seen in complaints is that I overused piranha plants (because I didn't have other tools that fit my design idea), or that I should change the first jump because it's difficult. Difficult design isn't a flaw unless it's fake difficulty (shit related to RNG, or pixel perfect messes).

Played the cthulhu one, it looked great, saw neat stuff all over the level. You placed the 1up hidden over the coin-thulhu perfectly, I hit it every time without trying, which was neat, and the squid tower a little after that which spat out a fire flower was a neat trick. I lost it almost immediately, and it worked that the squids were always just a little too high to give me another one, which I actually think is fair.

However, it did feel a little anemic, or maybe too long. some of the ideas popped up a couple times without really feeling too different.

Good job though, u got a star.

NEW RECORD.

Now I can go through the rest of the thread.
>>
>>321148358
Did you re-upload these? I could swear I played the Kamek level a month or two ago, but it doesn't register as played. Or maybe Nintendo can only keep track of recently played levels.
>>
>>321149725
HOW DID YOU FINISH WITH THE HAT!
>>
>>321149747
yeah Kamek has checkpoints and relocated enemies. and more background elements to make it more fridgelike. but i think it's mostly how you might remember it.
>>
Thanks >>321141035 for playing >>321147429! Your Twin Plumbers level inspired me to make this level, Mushroom Gear Solid V: The Phanto Pain.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/FCC7-0000-00EE-6B99

While it's not a close recreation like yours, it's merely a themed-level. The structures are meant to be Mushroom Gears.
>>
Who wants to be the first to clear my level? An above-average difficulty airship level in the Mario 3 skin.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/3585-0000-011D-48D5
>>
>>321149343
Yeah, that was intended, thanks for playing. If you want to me to play any of. Your's just post it. I'll bookmark it and play it tomorrow.

>Fungi Fortress
>16/228 clears
Huh, beat it without a single death. (Nearly fell once, but just landed on the lower layer and had to climb back up again. Phew) Good level.
>>
>>321149805
Pure puzzle world skill.
I flinched and jumped into the shell shot by the cannon. I nearly died.
>>
>>321149963
i'll link to a reply that has replies to my stuff.

>>321148358

I love bookmarking. I might not do every stage here today but it's on my bookmarks so during the week more than likely i'll play all of them.

>Phanto Pain
Well now I have to play this

Here are my favorites for you guys while I play through some of the ones I bookmarked:

Mario in the Meat Plant (Overall favorite, most popular)

King Koopa's Castle Dash (Favorite Boss Encounter)

Bowser Jr's Sky Factory:

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/E5DF-0000-003A-DA59

In this level you travel through a factory in the sky across conveyor belts or take the top top path which requires use of the Koopa Clown Car through a spiky obstacle course.

If you give feedback I'll bookmark your course and leave feedback on it tomorrow.
>>
>>321136627
The hammer brothers by the chockpoint are super annoying and the koopa car makes it very easy.
>>
>>321149805
Not that guy, but I finished with the hat too. I don't think I beat it the way you intended.

I couldn't figure out what to do when you used the cape to fly all the way to the left, so what i ended up doing was getting the cape, hat, and yoshi, then going back to the room with the thwomp that drops the vine and breaking that question block and then i ran along the top until i got to the pipe that leads to the end.
>>
>>321149943
Got the first clear!

Not the most inspired design, but it was certainly above-average without being annoying. Tanooki leaf helped, nice placement for that. Starred for both the thwomp and Bowser killing themselves by pounding into oblivion

A Mario 1 level using the fire balls as a gimmick. Let me know what you all think!
>>
>>321150349
Your meat factory level reminds me of a level I made, "Toad Has an Ordinary Day"

>>
>>321151742
i bookmarked most everything up to this post.

Gonna go to bed because my head is pounding from the fun i have been having.

I hope SMM threads get stronger from here on out. and i always enjoy the chill atmosphere here than the remainder of /v/.

see your stages tomorrow.
>>
>>321150012
I don't get it either. Someone must have forgot that there's a jump button.

Played and failed your Cryptomnesia level (timed out in the conveyor & donut block room) but your levels all look interesting so I'll play some more later when I have more time.
>>
Just played a bunch of levels, gave out stars and comments. Some great shit there guys.

Working on a new Shmup series over six stages. Here's the first:

Mariodius Stage 1:

Lemme know what ya think.
>>
>>321152949
Haha yeah, I'm thinking of updating Cryptomnesia and making it not shit (add checkpoints, completely overhaul the blue rooms as they are atrocious).
>>
>>321153263
>finished this stage earlier today
>page says it has 0 completions

10/10 website Nintendo
>>
>>321153263
Really fun stage. Only part I kept dying at was trying to squeeze through a wall I blasted through at the end, and I should have just jumped out of the car. Can't wait to see the rest

>>321153757
Well I just got the first clear so maybe you didn't
>>
>>321153972
It might have been reuploaded, but when I finished it this morning it said I got the first clear.
>>
>>321154095
Well then you and I are in a very special club friend. We're both winners
>>
>>321153757

I just redid it. I realized the stage could be cheesed by flying above or under the enemies, so I added spikes. Plus spiked up a small part of it.

Made in the style of SMB3 World 1. My favorite of my courses.

>Tfw you try to make a normal Castle Level and it ends up Super Expert

Can someone here try it? I need to know if Tricky Track Tower is too hard or if people are just really bad at Mario

Considering the general userbase of this game you really shouldn't pay attention to what difficulty the servers give to your levels.
