How experienced are you with turn based strategy? If you are rather casual about it I'd say Civ 5 is perfect. It was my first game of the genre and I am really digging it. It's not overly complicated but there are many ways to finish a game so it doesn't get boring. It's extremely relaxing playing it with a cup of tea during this time of the year.

Even the best designed bosses are forgettable or recycled.
The final boss is easier than the semifinal bosses. The DLC is stupid and the game drags on for way too long

As someone who likes local arena games like Towerfall and Samurai Gunn, I strongly-recommend Duck Game.
Also there's this game called "Crawl" that has this really fun anti-co-op design. It's always a fun game to play with friends

Not a big fan of Project CARS myself. Really like both sim and arcade racers, but this one seems to be trying to straddle the fence and please both. Too much of a sim to be accessable, and not sim enough to please the people who enjoy being pretend racecar drivers.
