Rare finally released early footage of Project Dream, which eventually evolved into Banjo Kazooie. What do you think?

We just need to make sure the next banjo game takes a strong animu approach and gives banjo his sword back. Then surely we will see him in Smash 5.

So a DKC clone evolved into a Crash Bandicoot Clone evolved into a Mario 64 Clone evolved into a Lego racing game?
>>
Are these getting added to Rare Replay?
>>
>>321131490

No.
>>
So THATS what the picture in Banjo's house is of...
>>
>>321126062
awesome

what are the chances that shit gets leaked
>>
>>321131112
Fuck nuts and bolts. It may not be a bad game but it pisses me off that they had to make the "something different" with a character that had nothing to do with building shit. That logic is absolutely retarded.

Why even give names to things if you do whatever the fuck you want with them. Here, rare, take this fork to eat soup. I know it's a fucking spoon, but I'm calling it a fork.
>>
>>321130375
I'm pretty sure this is a test level as well. Unless it's the beta Spiral Mountain.
>>
>>321131965
So it sells
Like, Mario doesn't have much to do with racing in go-karts, but if we make it a Mario go-kart racing game then it'll sell much more.
>>
>>321127072
i kinda wish there were more platformers in the same vein as crash bandicoot
>>
>>321127072
I actually really like the aesthetic of this
>>
>>321126062
Graphics looked nice, but the gameplay looked boring. I'm glad they ended up with Banjo-Kazooie.
>>
why did we never see extensive use of pre-rendered graphics on the N64?
>>
>>321132317
because MUH 3D!!!!!!!!!!

thats pretty much it

Sea Of Thieves better be fucking good or else.
>>
>>321132317

Well, Killer Instinct Gold was right after launch.

But most people ignored it.
>>
>>321126062
Looks a lot better than this
>>321126887

Obviously pre rendered almost always looked better back than early real time 3D back then, but the first one is still great looking for a late era SNES game. The forced filtering in N64 games also doesn't help 2D elements, making them blurrier and less detailed than on the SNES.
>>
>>321126062

as someone else said this shit looks like donkey kong

THAT TREE
>>
>>321132779

Well they literally said they started the game using the techniques they learned while doing DKC to try an RPG so yeah.
>>
>>321132317
n64 was poor at 2D compared to SNES
>>
>>321132081
I know what you mean but fuck Rare still.

Also, it's not exactly the same because Nuts and Bolts is a sequel story-wise and part of the timeline. It's not like nobody fucking cares about the Banjo lore, but what I mean is that Banjo changed. The literal franchise took a different direction. It's not like Mario, which is put in every game he has nothing to do with but still gets his "main" titles.

They can afford to do that with Mario because it's an ongoing icon. Like they did with Crash for example. That's a spinoff and it's okay. But you can't revive a franchise to turn into something entirely different, that's bombing it.

People who doesn't give two fucks about banjo would be interested in the game anyways, and people who want a faithful sequel is just going to be pissed. The only profit from making a banjo kart building game instead of a new franchise comes from the ones who liked banjo before and still got attracted to the new title.

I know it's to appeal to a wider audience and calculations may be done and it could still be the better option for them (economically-wise) but it really makes me sad when they kill things because of money. And they didn't even keep up releasing games.

Well maybe >>321132427 is right

I only remember that Custom Robo and Harvest Moon 64 used pre-rendered graphics but they also had 3D graphics. Maybe N64 couldn't handle good full 2D like Saturn or PS1?

Warzone is fun and refreshing. They made the singleplayer squad based, which is hit or miss for some people. I enjoyed it for what it was, but if you are playing solo, the AI squad is fucking worthless.

Damn I didn't realize CR used sprites like this. I own both of the N64 carts as well, but never got around to trying them out. I did enjoy the GC version of the game, and was under the impression it was just a port of the N64 game.
>>
>>321133032
they have a video on nuts and bolts and they explain how they got to that point. in the HD generation you needed huge, beautiful worlds. running around to travel these worlds wouldn't make sense, so they turned to vehicles. you still needed to collect new powerups to proceed and whatnot. also at that point in time, literally no one except mario was getting 3D platformers, so the market would have rejected threeie anyways
>>
>>321136515
Yet now we are seeing a demand for new 3D platformers. If theres any time to make Banjo Threeie, its now.
>>
>>321133587
I definitely want VP3, but I'd take JFG 2 first. realistically, I see team dakota making conker, iron galaxy does battletoads, Rare doing Banjo and maybe JFG. I really thought twisted pixel would be put on one of the properties, but I guess they wanted "muh indie" more, plus they were pretty "meh" anyways
>>
>>321136738
Threeie was so heavily rumored, but now I'm doubtful it will actually come any time soon. On one hand, it could be made with a team of 15-20 people, so a small portion of Rare. But on the other hand, why not just pimp Yooka-Laylee hard and still make money that way? Yooka-Laylee is going to be so similar that there's no reason to put that much in terms of resources into Threeie. I'd rather see a karting game in the vain of Diddy Kong Racing/Banjo-Kazoomie/Karting/Sabreman Stampede
>>
>They went from this to Kinect Sports Rivals and emulator collections

God fucking damn, what happened?

>>3D DK Sequel

This one makes me sad since Miyamoto threw a fit and rebooted the series into a no Kremlings allowed 2D only series.
>>
snes version could be a really neat atmospheric rpg, battles would start and operate like in chrono trigger but have really simple combat
>>
>>321146389
Retro said they are open to both 2D and 3D DKC sequels....but that doesnt mean much. Next DKC game will surely be 2D, and if they start work on a new MP trilogy, we can bet it will be another decade before we think about seeing DKC in any form
>>
>>321142580
Okami.

I was under the impression thats a combat oriented game with all the pen strokes for attacks. Does it play like a traditional platformer though, or does it just have some elements?

>>
>>321147535
It's got quite a bit of platforming, the ice dungeon in particular. Lots of tricky jumps to deal with. It's more focused on open areas/puzzles/fightan but those elements are there.
>>
>>321147068
next game from Retro is Diddy Kong Racing 2, right?
