For example, when his Hawlucha gets taken out in the Grass gym, he uses his Frogadier, which might seem like a dumb move, but he knows his Frogadier knows Arial Ace and uses its superior speed to end the battle quickly before taking too many super effective grass moves. He also has his Hawlucha time a super effective High Jump Kick when noticing that his opponent's Heliolisk always flicks its crest before attacking, etc.

To be fair, this trope is actually pretty realistic. Little boys don't start caring about girls until their hormones kick in, but little girls start caring about romantic themes much earlier because it's advertised to them from an early age.
