Assetto Corsa is pretty great as far as simulators go
The one I enjoyed the most is probably Gran Turismo 2 or one of those NFS games that had tuning and drifting and drag races
I also remember my first racing game, NFS2. I loved the Jaguar supercar there, also some Ford concept car with a triangular exhaust, that was cool.

Assetto corsa is more of a sim, project cars is not.
You can not drift in project cars for example it is impossible the game just doesn't let you, hence it makes driving rwd cars a bit odd because you can't let the car slide just a tad bit in corners, it just grips or spins, nothing in between.
My Xbox came with not only the best Xbox game, but it also came with the best racing game as well that I still play today.
I feel nothing but pity for the poor saps who had the Tetris Worlds + The Star Wars Clone Wars game package.

i play gt6 on weekends at a pals house, at home i play forza 5. the ps3 is hooked to a thrustmaster, my xbone to a logitech wheel. i can assure you that both games have nearly identical difficulty with a couple of minimal differences. the only reason people think that forza is more arcade, is because the vehicles in forza have more grip. you can change the tyres from regular street tyres to full racing ones AND you can choose the tyre width. in gt6 i only found the option to choose from different tyre types but not the width. plus you got the rewind function im forza and gt6 has strict tyre regulations (i.e. no wets on a rainy track) with AI that is capable when it comes to race the player. this could be a reason people think that forza is more arcade. except from that, driving physics are nearly identical. broad tyres, stupid AI and the rewind function make forza seem more easy. but i like both games. can recommend both, except with forza i would go with 6. 5 has too few cars, no rain and no night races.

Sega rally, Burnout 3, NFSU2, Top gear 2, NFSMW and Ridge Racer on consoles.

I really wish there was a forza-esque PC game.
My g27 doesn't work with the xbone, so I'm stuck playing AC and PCars, which are good games, but sometimes I don't want to have to work so hard to race.
Sure do love doing 6 laps in Spa to get rekt on the last lap by some retard AI and have to restart a 16 minute race.
Playing GRID2 and really loving it so far. Also got Dirt Rally but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

This fucker made me go to the arcades every once in a while, versus was pretty good, cards were fantastic, a pretty good pool of cars to choose from.
But what really got a lot of people on this machine back then was how much skill it needed, there was various tricks on how you can move your car, for example changing your gears down then moving it up again fast, will make your car slide prematurely allowing for a much more faster turn and keep your gear high if you do it right, discovering shit like this allows for a much more higher skill cap.
Sure it isn't realistic but it's an arcade game, doing shit like this will make players strive for perfection and play more and keep casuals off or inspire them to get good.
Shame it was removed from the arcade I used to frequent and replace it with stage 4, ever since then those who were regulars either continue to play, even though it feels completely different than its predecessor or completely stop going.
Dumb move from the arcade, in my opinion.

High Stakes is the high point of the original NFS games and includes stuff other games wouldn't have for YEARS (and few if any mainline NFS games afterwards would include other than Porsche 2k), and I'd give my goddamn left nut for a modern remake that wasn't in the same vein as the Hot Pursuit 'remake' and Most Wanted 'remake' and Underground 'reboot.'

Eraser and shit like that works in OutRun 2 as well- IDAS uses some of its code, or at least IDAS v1-3 do.
3 was definitely the high point, though. 4's overhaul felt and played like shit, and after that it was just rehashes and no English releases.
