How are you enjoying oddity Hunting? Have you found a way to deal with those Acid Dogs yet? Did you just realize your build won't work?

>How are you enjoying oddity Hunting?
It's pretty fun, thanks.

>Have you found a way to deal with those Acid Dogs yet?
Just arrived to the Junkyard, so not yet. But soon.

>Did you just realize your build won't work?
Not yet, but soon I suspect. Once I meet the Acid Dogs most likely. Although I definitely already did have some trouble taking on Lunatics.

Also, this game cured me out of my OCD.
>>
Been looking for a good cRPG-like game to play
How is this?
>>
I'm trying to play as a sneaky jack of all trades with melee and psychokinesis as offensive skills.
Level 4 so far, have to cheese a lot with force field to seperate packs of mutants and finishing them off one by one.
This will be pretty brutal, I can feel it.
>>
>>321092794
I like the idea of oddities initially but I've found it basically just devolves into checking every pile of crap in the hope of finding something useful.

>acid dogs
Gotta go stealth

> Did you just realize your build won't work?
I'm surprised how well it's working. 20 points wasted on pickpocketing though

>>321094116
It's great.
>>
Should I stick to my guns and go completely without Psi powers? Was completely reamed during the doppleganger isle and now Im wondering if I should start using them.
>>
>>321094116
Its great. It...it provides that feeling of self reliance and independence a good CRPG succeeds at doing.

They throw so many crafting and buying options at you, your purchasing options really stand out as "mattering".

PSI is surprising in that you'd think it would be limited extremely, but it's an entirely solid choice. At least in 1.0.

It's good and allows for your ingenuity to overcome obstacles.
>>
>>321095265
>Im wondering if I should start using them.
Aren't dopplegangers immune to Psi? I'm a psi main gun backup and everything I threw at the first one did 0 damage.

Just bought Mental Breakdown. Is it as awesome as I've been hoping?

What is "resolve"? Seems like an upgraded cryostasis.

Do Psi Headbands increase damage of the skill it's made for?
>>
>>321095308
It was even better earlier. The release version added the health malus, and raised psi costs.
>>
>>321095468
There's a cheevo for killing it. So I assumed Psi was the only way to do it.

>>
>>321097358
>guns when going psi
Backup skill. A reasonable measure. I was going in blind and didn't know if Psi would be reliable or system shock tier limited.

>investing into any social skills, ever
Plays into the RP. Social skills in Wasteland 2 served me well. I'm not sure if I should cut my losses, or keep leveling it.

>no pickpocketing
I needed it once to get the keycard. Wound up killing him.

>no lockpicking
In games with hacking and lockpicking, I usually skip lockpicking because that's where the low-mid level shit is and Hacking is for later in the game.
>>
>>321097358
I also use both guns and psi, and guns saved my life many times. Your psi eventually going to run out in serious battles, and it helps a lot if you are not forced to use a booster and waste the APs.

Not sure how much it helps him though, considering he didn't fully commit to it and his perception is kinda crap.
>>
>>321097897

>I'm not sure if I should cut my losses, or keep leveling it.

Don't. You don't get that many options to use it, and by the time you do the skill checks are often insanely high and almost always fail. I stopped levelling Intimidate at 40 because it had only succeeded in one single encounter.

>I usually skip lockpicking because that's where the low-mid level shit is and Hacking is for later in the game.

They're both used for lockers and boxes and chests in equal measure.

To be fair though Hacking is arguably more important than Lockpicking.

>>321098064

>Not sure how much it helps him though, considering he didn't fully commit to it and his perception is kinda crap.

This was my worry. Will still work as a backup skill, but the low Per is going to hurt.

Might be better to level Throwing instead up to around 50 or so. Grenades win battles, and combined with Psi you're going to get hilarious results.

>>
>>321099010

Yes, I presume you're at the GMS warehouse. It's a bonus area you can explore. If you couldn't convince Gorsky you can go the Agroprom level or whatever it's called in SGS and talk to the surgeon there for access.

But yeah, fuck Burrowers.

>>321099170

No worries, plenty of time. Lategame you don't know what to do with your points, so feel free to skip levelling them and focus on other things.
>>321099338

>Also, is going above 10 for your main stat worth it?

No.

>What's the skill cap? 100, or can it go higher?

I've seen people post that some very lategame doors are around 130 or so. Most stuff cap at 100 though.

>>321098860

Looks like one of thos Psi-monks build.

But have fun with 3 Con and a 25% base health penatly. Not sure how you're going to survive.

>>

>>
Before I try this I gotta know about the combat

>>

Seconding this.
>>
>>321099765
>Yes, I presume you're at the GMS warehouse.
I'm scrounging for EXP. I'm in the Junkyard quest wise and the first mutants were doable with some inventive premeditation and force field, but this acid is killing me.
>>
>>321099936
>Is it brutal and quick
This

>party
Solo from what I've played.

>>321099819
>>321099940
Lockpick and Hacking. Drop social skills. Commit to Psi + Throwing or Guns + Throwing or Melee + Throwing. Crafting is valuable important if you're willing to gather parts.

Ignore traps. With a detection buffing scope, you can see them and avoid most of them. Unless you really want free mines.

EMP grenades are important. Cherish them and keep them on you.
>>
>>321099765
But in the case of for example psi, Will determines damage and psi regen (this latter together with Int). So technically shouldn't going above 10 would be a good idea for a psyker for that higher damage?
>>
>>321099819
>>321099940

>suggestion for build

Several around the game and Steam forums. Many of them are good or solid.

If you're not going to use Psi, keep Will 3 and don't take the pill from the doctor. If you're not planning on crafting, keep Int at 3.

>important skills

To be honest, all of them except Social skills. Traps and Throwing are support skills but holy shit they are a godsend in battles. Grenades and traps can make all the difference in the world. Make sure to level Throwing to at the very least 50 so you can toss them with reasonable accuracy. Traps only need to go around 35ish so you can deploy the upgraded traps you get from merchants and loot.

>>321100091

Use Stealth, and go see if you can find some Bio resistant armor to lessen the damage. Use grenades and traps as much as you can, and abuse doors when fighting those fucking dogs.

>>321100740

Waste of points, and the damage increase is nowhere near as much as you get from increasing your skill points. Better to level something else up.

>>321099936

Quick and brutal and you will be going solo. If you go Psi you can "conjure" a Doppelganger to buttfuck your enemies which is hilarious, but you will generally be alone 99% of the time. Also, your enemies are just are strong as you are, and they will always outnumber you.

So yeah, have fun.

Of course. Thank you. I like that the game trusts me to navigate, but being able to say "could you give me clearer instructions bro" would be great.

Regarding armour.

When I see something like Mechanical 20% / 3 I'm assuming the "3" is the damage threshold? And ideally I should be trying to get that number as high as possible.

Actually, is there a manual for this game anywhere?

I want to play this classic Fallout-style, with guns, lockpicking+hacking, and science type skills. Possibly dialog skills, depending on how stringent the game is with skill points. No throwing, no melee, no PSI.
Is that viable?
>>
Been playing around 4 hours or so, is crafting/repairing ever explained? Any tips in general?

>>321092794
Acid dogs take time, exploiting doors, mines, and trying to fight as few at a time as you can. Try to gather them all up and the use explosives to take them all down together.
>>
>>321105424
My main concern is that I would be spreading myself too thin.
>>
>>321105335
>is crafting/repairing ever explained?
Not really. You pick it up yourself.

>Any tips in general?
Carry EMP grenades with you at all times. Sometimes you'll need to escape combat situations you can't handle. You can die if your opponent gets the drop on you. They're as lethal as you are.

>>321105313
>skill points
You get 40 per level.

Pure guns? The science is mainly for crafting. You can definitely do it, but with science, I'd throw in throwing too.
>>
So this is a better Fallout clone. But is there any sci-fi elements besides PSI? Like some neat cyberpunk shit?

40 per level, and you can only put 5 points into any skill per level up? Getting max advances on 8 skills sounds like a lot to me.
Guns
Dodge/Evasion in equal measure
Hacking
Lockpicking
Mechanics
Electronics
+2 PSI skills, will decide when I actually know the game.
I may even forego mechanics and electronics, if they're used only for crafting and not for skillchecks in the game world.
>>
>>321102907

It's one of the only locations in the game that has that. It's to make sure you don't get that before you get recieve the quest.

Doesn't help that the quest descriptions are shit though. They were shit in alpha, shit in beta, and shit at release. I'm not asking for much either, just some clear locations, or a system where you can make your own notes like Serpent in the Staglands.

>>321104927

I... guess you should be fine?

Maps are plentiful but very small so there are a massive ton of short but many loading screens.

>>321105313

Yes.

Skip dialogue skills, and don't take the pill from the doctor at SGS, and you'll be fine.

Also, don't max any science skills just yet. Read up a bit on blueprints. Combat skills and lock/hacking is more important than crafting, so wait a bit until you get a good grasp of the blueprints and materials available.

Biology can be safely rasied to 25 so you can make your own health hypos, or just max Pickpocket and steal. You can get over 50 advanced health hypos in Core City alone.

>>321105609

Don't bother with Psi unless you go full Psi build. There are some good stuns and such like Telekinetic Punch, but that requires a fair amount of skill investment to carry on in lategame, since many enemies will resist them, and that 25% health manus is fucking enormous for a game like this.
>>
hi
>>
>>321106478

Wait with crafting skills until you've played the game. Skip Psi if you're not going 10 Will and 7-10 Int.

Also note that Throwing is godlike because of grenades, and get a bunch of points into Traps is going to save your life.
>>
>>321106901
>and get a bunch of points into Traps is going to save your life.
If going psi, detection goggles + pyrokinesis can take care of traps.

Nope. Instead you have special melee skills that target specific areas like dirty kick or crippling strike. Ranged characters have special gun skills like aimed shot and things like those.

That's because whenever you get a psi/magic system in a game like these, devs are so afraid of you being overpowered, they make it completely useless.

Well, it's not like they leave anyway, but that would have been nice for sure. I'm more interested in whether there was a different outcome for that quest. I convinced the bandits that I was hot shit so they took me to the leader, but I failed the persuasion check there so it ended in a massacre anyway. What happens if you pass it? I assume Gorsky would get some new lines, but anything else?

Pick one combat stat, intelligence and one defensive stat.
Decide whether or not you're going to use psi in the very beginning as it requires a specialized build with 10 WILL and possibly 8-10 INT to utilize correctly.
Crafting skills are ALWAYS good.
Social skills are meh but you can level up intimidate for that yell skill.
Traps are meh.
Everything else is viable as fuck.

Terrible idea in this game.
You can do pretty much anything in this game and have it be viable but you really need both defenses maxed unless you're a heavy armor type of guy.
Practical advice for faggots though is that you get 40 skill points per level and every level you get a +5 cap on your skills so pick 8 skills to max.

oddity

It's fine. Sometimes I wish I could just grind.
>>
>>321120152
Oddity allows you to roleplay your "class" better because you don't have to grind for exp by killing and unlocking everything.

I can avoid combat as a sneaky character and still level up and get better.
>>
>>321120152
oddity. I honestly dont' know why they even made classic an option.
Oddity allows you to achieve your goals in whatever way you see fit and still gain equal xp to a combat character.
Brilliant idea and every single rpg in existence would be improved by a similar system.
>>
>>321120703
It was a super smart idea.

Your learning about the lore at the same time by these little blurbs, so learning about stuff and reading the oddities are rewarding.

>>321120703

classic seemed to give more xp, but i wasn't paying enough attention to make a real comparison
classic still gave xp for oddities

It all depends on your build.
I could see dodge (melee defense) being worthless if you're a long range guy or obviously hte psi skills if you don't plan to get red pilled.
mainly it seems you want either bows or throwing for special kinds of damage. You're not going to do shit to a robot without the ability to electricute them and you're going to get gangraped if you don't have some kind of aoe attack.

The writing definitely splits people, as it's often slightly awkward (main dev is not a native English speaker, Serbian guy) and it's not particularly deep, as people seem to expect intellectual discourse from their rpg for some reason. >>321134623
copy pasted from elsewhere

"Dodge and Evasion are the go-to for almost any conceivable Stealth-based character. Pump that Agility up and reap massive rewards from your 3 main defensive skills. Light armor fits into these with no or very few penalties, providing a slight amount of protection but mainly skill bonuses and whatnot. D/E will not save you alone. Use your Stealth to initiate and give yourself better odds in the fight."

" Dodge/Evasion do not combine with heavy armor because heavy armor means massive penalties to Dodge/Evasion (and Stealth)."

synergy isn't really there
