It's gonna be Liberty City. I know it seems like we just left GTA IV but in 2018, when VI will probably be out or just around the corner, it'll be ten fucking years old. Miami's too similar to LA (so is San Francisco), Vegas isn't varied enough and anywhere else just isn't iconic in the way GTA needs it to be.

Sunny LA to cold NY is a pretty big distinction and I can see that being the rationale behind the decision, aside from the obvious (NY is iconic as fuck).

Also, think of the visuals. GTA V already looks great, even on last gen.

More evidence: http://www.ballerstatus.com/2014/04/03/grand-theft-auto-6-returning-liberty-city/

Nice picks for some other dev wanting to make their own Sandbox.

Dan Houser declared that the GTA series grew to have the deepest geographical studies in gaming to adapt real locations into a video game, they will always be set in the United States for that fidelty to be maintained.

GTA6 is not gonna be vice city, rockstar already confirmed that

It's gonna be Las Vegas obviously

or maybe Dubai if not USA, but that would suck cause of shitskins
>>
The next logical step would be Vice City I guess, but Vice City only worked so well due to the 80's aesthetic. Modern Miami doesn't seems anywhere near as cool.

I feel like a GTA in Chicago, Las Ventruras or San Fierro would be cool.
>>

Las Venturas and the real Las Vegas itself cannot be a whole game. Smaller than GTA3's own simple rendition of Liberty City.

The issue with Liberty City was that it wasn't a realistic depiction of New York. Everybody should've been wearing Tims, Roaches should've been as big as the cars, and subway should've been the only logical way to get around.

I can actually see this being the reaction in 3 years when I end up being right. /v/ will fucking despise R* for going back to Liberty City and I can't wait for the memes although personally I'm happy with it, I love NYC.
>>
>>321080828
That's true, GTA IV didn't really capture the experience of trying to drive in New York City.

Then again, GTA V didn't really capture the Los Angeles traffic either, aside from occasionally when you'd switch between characters and they'd be "stuck in traffic."
>>
>>321080828
boring gray city, yeah no

its definately gonna be a shiny city, where there is lots of luxery cars and shit

If in USA it will be Las Venturas (and maybe another city around)
If outside USA it will be Dubai

80's vice city or modern day vice city is out of the picture

new york seems even more logical cause it attracts more to their target audience

nobody but 25+ year olds on /v/ would care for another vice city

>>321080980
i hope they make it more interesting and less boring and gray then, also needs outside areas. Just a city alone gets old really fast.

80's vice city is something they pulled off but cant pull off a second time

its gonna be modern day, 100% sure. Even future is higher chance than past. But it will be modern day, it will have the bugatti veyron, etc.

You need shit to spend shark cards on, dont forget

NY state is varied as fuck and I can't imagine they'll avoid countryside again, pretty sure they didn't include it at the time because of tech limitations.

There's tons of opportunity. I want a city as big as GTA V's entire map with countryside on top of it and it's totally possible given the hardware.
>>
Not Vice City itself, but the surrounding areas too, and an expy of Cuba, featuring human trafficking missions a la Trevor with multiple "recipients"of your potential cargo.

Also, club scene that would eclipse the one from TBoGT, lots of corporate greed on top of social upheaval, gators and pythons to hunt and be hunted by, literally metric AND imperial fucktons of pop culture to pull from with just Disney and News of the Weird to reference.

Florida is some crazy shit. Makes for good gaming and parody.

Also, seasons. Liberty City is objectively the best location.

>>321081894

I wouldn't mind Vegas but it's a pretty boring landscape. Casino heists would be cool though.

I don't think the Houser brothers care as much about the children as you think. Obviously Take Two is in charge but the single player will likely never take a dive because of online, I just can't see it happening with R*.
>>
>>321081894
They could do plenty of upscale luxury shit in Liberty City, dude. Have you seen the property values in Manhattan? NYC is increasingly becoming the playground of the super rich. Brooklyn is feeling the gentrification squeeze, and it's now just full of trust-fund hipsters. Soon, no one will be able to afford it, except maybe way out in Queens or up in the Bronx, or maybe like Chinatown.

Plus they could do plenty more with the whole BAWSAQ stuff in Liberty City, since Wall Street is actually in NYC.
>>
In the garbage bin.

After V, and where they took it with GTAO, I have zero faith in Rockstar anymore.

>make GTAV
>add 3 whole protagonists
>have the opportunity to have a massive game that fleshes these 3 characters out with their own storylines, occasionally intertwining
>merge them all together the entire game and barely flesh any of them out
>game relatively short
>ends up all the money, time, and effort went into a barely-functioning Online aspect of the game
>plays like shit because what do you expect from the people who play GTA games
>only ever support the MP with updates
>SP left to rot

Fuck em and fuck GTA.

>everglades type swamp area

>>
>>321082613

Do you have any idea how much time/effort goes into making a single player campaign on the level of GTA V? The quantity might be a little less but the quality is just ridiculous. No game comes close in terms of gameplay fluidity, physics, even writing. It feels like you're playing a movie.

Plus, I barely touch Online and I still have hundreds of hours played. WAY more shit to do than GTA IV.

future GTA isn't gonna happen

as for interiors I think the generational leap will really center around that, I think GTA VI will have all interiors open. sounds near-impossible but with procedural generation and current-gen hardware I think they can do it. it'd be such a vast improvement

I hope they bring back progression, having the entire map unlocked from the start made it boring.

GTA V is the best of the GTA series and one of the best games of all time. It's definitely the biggest technical achievement in gaming.

While Vice City was a cute rendition of Miami and San Andreas had cute renditions of LA/LV/SF, GTA V practically IS Los Angeles. Obviously the size isn't even close but the overall feel is totally fucking there. It's uncanny.

The fluidity in gameplay, physics, character control, etc. is incredibly realistic and hasn't been matched by any other game. It isn't even close. That's without even mentioning the movie-level story execution. I've said this before but GTA V actually feels like you're playing a movie, it's insane and completely worth the hype (as well as the billions of dollars). GTA IV have slightly better writing but that doesn't matter when this is the execution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bi6e1rRGgo&feature=youtu.be&t=92

The argument used to be (with GTA IV) "San Andreas has more to do" but even that doesn't hold any weight at this point. GTA V has fuckloads of high-quality content that far surpasses 99% of the competition. You might not be able to use dildos as weapons but there's Saints Row for that "EPIIIIIC SUPERHERO XDDD" garbage.

Really though, I'm tired of this "GTA V is bad" meme. Nothing has come close since its release two years ago.
>>
>>321091692
They'd never make one up because they "pride" themselves on recreating real life locations but I agree completely that this shit needs to be in a different place.

It doesn't have to be somewhere iconic like NYC and LA. There are interesting cities in just about every state, besides the midwest squares. Doesn't even have to be a huge city, just an interesting location.

Makes it more immersive imo.

Plus real life cars look better than the mixture of cars the gta devs like to do.

They put real life music in the game from real life artists, i might as well have some real life cars and planes to go along with it.

What if Anywhere City became Anywhere State, then kept the future aspect so more things are possible? Various parts of the state can be used to represent the many time periods that fans have come to enjoy - and then something new.

>Bottom half of the map is heat street; 70s - 80s references galore; everyone is fighting for this chunk of the state; police are less common here. Vintage guns and cheap cars

>Middle half of the map is the "contemporary" area; not a lot goes on here; there are suburbs and a bit of forest to explore, but this place mostly represents the new millenium. The same groups fight over this city to a lesser degree; a lot of the fights here are started by the police. Military-grade weapons and moderate cars.

>Sitting between 2/3 of the map and the other 1/3 is a large desert; small patches of civilization resembling Middle-Eastern kibbutzim can be found here. Secret super-weapon, cheap cars.

>Truly representing Anywhere State is Anywhere City, its capital. Here, the protagonist(s) is reminded of their time. Gangs are virtually non-existent. Instead, there are simply two factions: the criminals, which are made up of all earlier gangs, and the police, which is essentially just its own gang. Energy weapons, hover cars.

>Miscellaneous gated communities in between represent quieter times, like the 20s - 50s; shit's pretty posh here, with the exception of the mobsters controlling it. Classic weapons, expensive (but slow) cars.

>Four playable characters, all with intertwined stories, and from different parts of the map, but only three are available throughout the main campaign. The fourth character actually works as the explanation for many of miscellaneous factors influencing the events of the main campaign.

>Each character has a unique skill/weapon set (i.e. using rifles for drive-by, running twice as fast, taking twice as much damage, etc.); different weapons may be used, but the characters are best with the ones they originally own.

Liberty City and Los Santos have been done twice, and Vice City doesn't work if it's not set in the 80s. And I doubt they'd bring back Fierro and Venturas

>>
>>321093553

Many many gta V addon cars have 3D models ripped from forza and other games. Most of them have full interiors of their own and a lot of them even have specific mods (hoods/side skirts, spoilers etc.) that you can install in game.

I've installed probably 50 new cars on GTA i've only uninstalled 2 or 3 for being below quality.

Breakable glass, full damage, modding, etc. is essentially the standard for non-beta releases. Check em out sometime family, you might be surprised.

GTA 4's physics where way better than 5's.
Driving a car in 4 is fucking great, you really feel the weight of the car, it was also a bit harder, but had a higher skill ceiling, if you played a lot you eventually got really good at the driving, at least I did.
5's driving is a step back if you ask me, it's way more arcadey, the cars just seem glued on the road.

I think it's about time we got a LONDON GTA.
I'm sure everyone is at some point getting tired of the whole LA/NY shit. All though Rockstar pretty much makes the best satirical/parody content, And LA/NY are full of shit to make fun of.

Especially Jimmy.
They should make a singleplayer DLC where it's all about Michael kicking out Jimmy and you get to live out his stupid, spoiled crazy life.
>>
>>321114732

most "completely original" ideas would just be off-brand versions of cities we've already had.

Chicago or Boston = Liberty City. Honolulu or San Francisco = LS and maybe Vice City. There's two real possibilities, hot/sunny and cold/dark, and I can't see R* straying away from LC, LS or Miami. Even Miami seems off the table at this point.

like I said for Red Dead, Bully doesn't really need a sequel. It's probably my favorite R* game and it was great for its time but next-gen visuals + higher levels of detail will ruin the humor, artstyle and overall vision. For a while I thought an SJW-focused Bully game would be neat but really, GTA covers all those satirical grounds already.

Everything good about Bully would be ruined by modern techniques and graphical standards. 10 years ago was the perfect time for it to release, I just can't see a sequel happening anymore

Red Dead is gonna happen whether I want it or not though

>>321115871

What does better graphics have to do with humor or anything? Bully looked way better than any GTA on PS2 and still had loads of charm, personality and its own vibe. As long as they don't try to make something too realistic or serious and keep a similar art style it will be fine.

If anything I think the problem is that a game like Bully wouldn't be the same if you play it as a 25 year old guy instead of as a teenager
>>
>>321115878

There wasn't much in San Fierro but Las Venturas with the casinos, desert with area 69, countryside, all made the game feel big. Having one city in the corner of the map definitely doesn't work. V felt dead as there was never any reason to leave Los Santos.
>>
>>321116638

Bully with modern visuals would have to be 'realistic' (at least in the GTA-vein) otherwise there'd be a jarring disconnect

Bully's gameplay/humor is more on-par with the 3D era GTAs, and clearly that shit went out the window with the Rage engine
