My last two games had faggots in important position quit for no reason (like over losing a single battle, even though a bunch of other people would have had his back) and breaking the game for everyone else.

maybe not the most fun but I was always impressed with the magic system in ffxii, a ton of variety in terms of schools and number of sheer spells, magic was the majority of what made that game's battling enjoyable

It's worth it and the climb isn't as difficult. DF is hard to get into because everything is randomly generated and difficult to get immersed in. Dominions has a lot of interesting lore based on mythology and ancient history.

DD is pretty good, sorcerer has some flashy spells and some long cast times so you feel suitably sorcy. Magic archer is pretty fun too.

Sorcerer is sort of like "rookie" spell-caster. A beginner spellcaster who only casts his spells from afar because he's constantly sticking to the book on how sorcerers should cast.
