I don't know what you're talking about. I guess stylistically, it's not much like SMT, but it IS looking a whole lot like Persona, to the point where this is practically Nintendo's very own Persona title. And Persona is a very important branch of SMT by this point, sharing a lot of similar elements.
It's also looking gameplay-wise like a mix between Persona and FE. Remember, the weapon triangle from FE is going to be a big part of the combat, in addition to exploiting elemental weaknesses like in SMT. I'm pretty sure it's going to utilize the Press Turn system too, or at least something like it.
I'm very interested in the gameplay. Despite the idol nonsense, I think it's going to be a very fun JRPG

We have no idea how dark the game might get. I'm not a fan of the idol focus at all, but it might end up being more than that. I hope they drop the idol thing for a future Genei game or at least write some relevant social commentary about it.

From the gameplay they've shown, it looks like it's a pretty important part of battles, since exploiting weapon triangle weaknesses essentially acts like a Press Turn system in and of itself. You're going to be worrying about both that and the Press Turn system to boot.

The fusion aspect is one of the most important in my opinion because it makes the game kind of the opposite of Pokémon, with every party member being a means to an end.
