Awakening was so successful they churned out another one in a fairly short amount of time. No one in America even knew what fire emblem was before melee and most people never played FE until awakening. I have no clue what attracted the new crowd to it, I can understand it appealing to a wider audience but I do not understand how that wider audience found out about it unless the internet made it easier to find for some reason.

That's how I could see it appealing to more people but I don't remember that being an advertising point or how people suddenly discovered fire emblem. How did waifu fags find out about this game and not the others and make that much of a huge market difference. I don't even remember hearing about a fire emblem after sacred stones (might be wrong title) until awakening, and I heard about SS waaaay after it's release.
I played awakening because I heard about it after playing sacred stones and wanted a strategy game, the waifu faggotry was fun too and I can see people getting it for that but I don't get how you go looking for a waifu fag game and find it.

Awakening was definitely a waifu game but it wasn't the big selling point like with Fates. Awakening was so successful mainly because Nintendo bothered to advertise it period, the waifu shit was just a bonus that helped sell DLC.

Am I the only one just a little tired of third-party stuff? Yes, Ryu, Cloud, and Bayonetta are all awesome but I just want to see something new that is 1st party and isn't Fire Emblem for Kid Icarus. Lucas was my favorite main from Brawl and I was ecstatic to see him return and Mewtwo is fun to play even if he/she/it is garbage tier.
The Mario Maker stage was blatant shilling but it's actually a decent, fun stage to play on that's not "constantly avoiding moving cinematic stage shit and cheap deaths instead of actually fighting your opponents" horseshit and I would like to see more stuff like that.

Except I felt Megaman Sonic and Pacman were perfect, Ryu was pushing it as is, but seeing as Street Fighter 2 was extremely popular on the snes and had like 15 verison on it too, he fit nicely. Cloud and Bayo, though I don't mind having them feel like it's taken 3rd party thing too far.

smash 5 guesswork this early is fucking crazy, but how many fighters can this game reasonably sustain
the simple movesets with multiple applications and gimmicks remind me of MOBAs, as in they can go to a relatively higher number than traditional fighters without getting too crazy. i'm thinking like upper 60s at this point?

3DS ports of Wii games sell as much as the best Fire Emblem games do. DKCR3D sold maybe a couple hundred thousand less than Awakening. Even then Awakening had a shitton of advertising, a fucking 30 dollar free eShop credit tie in with SMTIV, lots of TV ads etc.
