I just bought a PS4 with Bloodborne + Old Hunters a little over a week ago (well not just for bloodborne but that was the first game I played). And well I just finished it after playing what was probably over 100 hours in about 10 days or so. And I'm just speechless. It was just so fucking brilliant. I feel like the base game was a 10/10, but the DLC was just fucking incredible and brought it up to legendary 11/10 status.
Everything is on point: the atmosphere, level design, OST, enemy and boss design, the combat just feels so fluid and responsive, the hitboxes, the lore, the art design. Just everything. If you have not played this game or are waiting to pull the trigger on a PS4 to play Bloodborne, you NEED to play this game. I feel like this will be the ESSENTIAL game of the 8th generation.

The DLC is the hardest part of the game outside of Chalice Dungeons (which are, to be honest quite shit). And I would recommend doing the DLC after you've beaten the final area of the game but before fighting the final boss.
You CAN get to the DLC after 3 bosses, but it will be almost impossible to kill anything.

As a person who also bought a PS4 on black friday with bloodborne. It is a great game but far from perfect, especially if you played the other souls games.

Bloodborne has only two memorable tracks Ebrietas theme and Gerhman.
Dex builds are more for fun than practicality, seems like strength and arcade builds just make the PvE a cakewalk.
Worst PvP in any souls games, people run and draw out the fight for 20 minutes with all the life vials. Worst case scenario you get min maxers cheesing PvP.
The PvE is still great and the best atmosphere of any souls game.

Is it weird that I couldn't get into Bloodborne. I loved Demon's Souls, thought Dark Douls was decent, and Dark Souls 2 was great. But for Bloodborne I felt like I had to drag myself through. I beat the first two bosses (can't remember the names) and then dropped it.
Should I go back? I really wanted to like it but just felt like I was forcing myself to push through.
Maybe I was comparing it too much to the other Souls games but the lack of shield, lack of weapons and armor, lack of magic and miracles, and the nonlinear world design (greatly preferred DeS expensive and open, yet also linear, game design), etc. just weighed down the experience.

Of course I like several PC exclusives too, but few multiplats have ever engraved themselves in my memory. Exclusive games usually got locked down for a damn good reason, and contributed to the unique feel of owning that console. Original Xbox's lineup is very special to me, and I wouldn't have it any other way, although I do wish they'd get around to emulating it for when there are no more Xbox HUEG's left running.
I'm not some greedy PC-only fucker who wants every game made to migrate to Steam just because I feel entitled to it for having built an expensive game machine. I'll build another gaming PC one day, but it isn't high on my list of priorities because I'm not a gaming idealist who's clamoring for a "perfect" world with no consoles and a Steam monopoly on all gaming.

I liked it but it's not that amazing. The combat doesn't feel that fluid, you're given a quick dash (nice) while defensive options (read: turtle power) are utterly gutted. There's still no incentive to "play offensively" though, because half of the time you try to do that you'll get combo swiped to death by the boss's enormous hitboxes.

But that's a fucking huge investment that I'm not ready to make yet now. After college unless there's been some horrible PC gaming disaster that ends it, I'll certainly do that.

If not for console exclusivity, a lot of my favorite games probably wouldn't have existed. Company makes consoles, and to sell more of that console, they provide studios with the funds to make projects specifically for their new system.

Even some performance tests need to be downloaded via steam, it's not funny anymore. Indie devs that avoid it for a while feel forced to release their games on steam because almost every potential client is on it. You aren't FORCED to be on steam, but the upsides are too high not to.

That's literally always been true. It's true of smartphones too. They're all just computers in different containers. However, if someone wants to make one and develop software specifically for their box to make it more attractive on the market, I don't see the problem. There used to be games that only ran on Windows or Mac, shit there are still games that only run on Windows, and more than that there are plenty of games with no console ports (I'd like to play some Civ on my PS4, but I don't bitch about it).
