I don't like that the movement meta consists of always side hopping since it's slightly faster than just walking.

There's Quake Live, 3 and Reflex.
I like UT but Quake and its clones are the superior 1v1 arena FPS games.
Until the new UT gets Annihilation it's nothing but a flashy remake in a new engine.
