I really like Smite but High Rez is fucking retarded sometimes. Also, the game runs like shit.
After sinking an unhealthy amount of time into Dota 2, The fact that there is so much less to worry about in Heroes of the Storm makes it more fun overall. Less is more etc.

I have 2k hours in LoL, switched to Dota (400-ish hours) and will easily admit Dota is the better game. The lack of waifus and the retards obsessed with waifus is a nice bonus

Quit League a month or two back.
On one hand, I feel free and can look back and see it was a pretty big addiction for me. On the other hand, I haven't really replaced it with anything, so I spend a lot of time doing pretty much nothing now.
I didn't realise just how many of my friendships revolved around playing League. I don't really have anything to do with people now. Kinda sucks.
League- Zen game to play with friends while having a conversation
Dota2- bar none the BEST for spectating game. being able to watch games from the client INGAME while still listening to casters IN FUCKING GAME is amazing to me.
Heroes Of newerth- The game I actually enjoy playing the most. Midwar's Warrior reporting in.
SMITE- really only play every now and then when they have some sort of "win 1 game get gems" special going on. I mostly play this because a while back a friend bought me the All-gods pack.
For casual play: LoL
For competitive: DotA 1
For meme play: Dota 2

The best thing about LoL, frankly, is the porn that has come from it.
The game itself was pretty decent in the couple of years following it's release, but problems with their approach to balance as well as the general model of paying/playing to unlock heroes ruined what could have been a great thing.
The fact that their server setup has been so bad, both in terms of where game-servers are actually located and fragmentation of the userbase across independent services, is a shocking failure that should have been properly addressed years ago.

That's the unfortunate reality of building friendships on a foundation of playing the same game, it doesn't mean that the friendships are somehow bad, but if interest in the game or series wanes the friendships often don't last, it's the videogame variation of "growing apart".
Having a community VOIP server has been a good way to have those friendships last, in my experience.
We've all got areas where our interests overlap and areas where they don't, and that's ok.
That is a bit harder to achieve if there is only a single common interest that you otherwise couldn't mingle around.
