FO2 is my favourite, but come on, some were pretty cringey.
Maybe it was because I plowed through FO1 and went straight to FO2 after but it just felt too long for me.

Fallout 2 is fucking garbage compared to Fallout 1. The starting tribe is fucking absurd, the cave of trials takes forever when you want to start a new game and screws you up if you're a gun build, which again, makes no sense that you're good with guns when you're in an African style tribe, towns are unnavigable due to how much yellow meme text jokes pop up, and quite frequently too I might add, the pacing is shit, the economy is ruined and it's now impossible to get caps from stores because you have a gun worth 400 and they have 16 caps and a medkit, so you end up completely overstuffed and having to swap out weapons for the same slightly better shape version six times from the time you leave one town and come back to sell, many builds are not functional through most of the game due to the lack of opportunities to use skills, the writing is horrendous and XD RANDUM EPIN, and that includes responses from dialogue choices.
There's nothing more retarded than walking up to a store after a long, intense battle to see "I CAME HERE TO CHEW ASS AND KICK BUBBLEGUM. Now, what can I do ya for there, partner?"

The Elder of the village is testing you to make sure you're able to survive in the outside world by putting you through the Temple of Trials. It challenges your use of explosives, speech, sneaking, fighting, lockpicking, and knowing how to choose your battles, something you'll be doing throughout your entire playthrough.
Now that you've made me think about it, it's actually one of the better tutorials in an RPG. Makes sense within the games canon and lets you test out your skills. And if you've already completed the game, you can just run right through it without a second thought.
