Ok, let's clarify some things.
1. Capra Demon is piss easy, he's not the hardest part of the fight
2. The dogs will give you more problems than the "boss" itself
3. The dogs can kill you before you reach the stairs. If you dodge Capra's first attack the dogs and interrupt and chainstun you to death while you recover from the dodge animation
4. People don't realize there's 50% positioning and 50% luck due to how the dogs behave that gives people the most trouble

Not really its probably the one time being DSP worked out for him. DSP is notorious for always looking for a way to run away from a boss in most situations that seem like that might be possible. So seeing the stairs he probably thought they led somewhere.

That's what I'm doing now.
I tired to get into DaS approximately 5 times. Each time I gave up because it was "too hard".
The most recent time playing, I picked Pyromancer and went with the game. Took my time, learned movements, fell in love with the game.
Continued on and encountered my first Black Knight. Kill him and got his sword. Got my str up to 1hand it as a Pyromancer and have been loving the game so far.
Found out about upgrading weapons/making weapons because I wanted to get a possibly stronger weapon, so I tried my hand at upgrading to max levels and saw at +10 Falchion I could make a new sword I've never even seen and got my Kellogg's sword.
My cousin ruined the game for me by telling me (trying to get me into DaS) about the Drake's but I never attempted to get it. In fact, I accidentally killed the merchant because a corpse attacked me and was right next to the merchant. It's how I found out that NPCs can be killed purposely or on accident..

Not that guy, but that never happened to me. I beat the Capra demon with multiple builds, and I've never died to him. If you have heavy armor, poise lets you run to the stairs unharmed. If you have no poise, you can easily roll pass the capra demon and take a left to the stairs. The amount of I-frames your roll gives you, toppled with its distance, makes it extremely easy. Not only that, carrying any type of shield can also block the dog's attacks very well if you need it.
