My Pokemon Red has legit all 151. I remember the very last thing I needed to catch was a fucking Tauros because you could only catch it in Safari Zone and it was a gamble as to whether you could catch it or it runs away.
I was so fucking hyped when I finally did and I went to that guy in Celadon City who said to comeback when you catch everything, and all I get was this retarded screen with a congratulations for completing the Dex. It was so fucking anticlimactic that I saved right there and then, turned it off, and never played it again. I could turn it on right now and I'll be right in front of that guy.

That's pretty much what happens today when you catch em all as well. They tried a little harder with giving out shiny and oval charms, but the effort to get them all ends up making you do all the little side events you're supposed to discover. Sure if you're competitive you can start training a team, but if you did that for X/Y (and who knows how long those teams will be valid for tournament play with Pokemon bank?) there's not even a reason for that unless some game changing pokemon was added.

GRBY didn't have a small clock ticking away built in to the cartridge that they foolishly shared with the game save battery. GSC did. They realized the mistake with RSFRLG but that was because non-volatile memory was cheap enough to be included.

To be honest, I haven't touched my Red version much since 2010 cuz it glitched out on me one time and I thought the battery was going. I can still play Yellow and Blue with no issues whatsoever. They'll probably die within a few years; RSE will live on at least 7 more years after that.

You can also use an EverDrive-64 with a Transfer Pak to rip save files off of GB cartridges. It's even better than MMC because it saves them to SD card, ready to use in any emulator.
Sadly, ED64 didn't come about until long after my GSC have died. At least I was able to rescue RBY.
