The lore is that the form of an eidolon is based on the stories told about it. When the dead pass through the Crystal of Life, their memories of those stories are given form. Ozma was born, and then sealed away and forgotten a long time ago. So he exists, but the stories about him are gone so he's formless.

Fighting Ozma reminded me of fighting Ruby Weapon from FF7. A cheap ridiculous boss that has a answer to just about everything, that you are forced to cheese it if you expect to win. Only difference is that you could paralyze Ruby Weapon, while Ozma you just had to deal with in general. There is no set up that gives you a 100% chance of victory against Ozma, there is always the chance that he will do something that ruins your entire plan.

Ozma is wonderfully terrifying in its simple, uncanny design. Is it a dragon? Nope. Is it a gigantic angel of death with one wing and bloody eyes? Nope. It's a swirly sphere of death, and it will fuck your day up.

In a game full of imaginative designs in world and enemies, I think Ozma was completely deliberate. I can appreciate it for what it is.

Also easiest boss once you know how to handle it. Wear Dark-absorb gear, grind out Thievery and Dragon's Crest, and fuck its shit up.

Ozma has some sort of special property other bosses dont have.

Thats not exactly it, but it was something that was along those lines. I think for some reason attacks with long animations were better.

Nah. Every time you input a command, Ozma gets its ATB gauge instantly filled and gets an action before the one you input. The way to avoid that from happening is only inputting commands while Ozma is locked in an animation.

I regularly 100% VII, it's way easier and I find it way more enjoyable since there are many dominant strategies that involve basic grinding, unlike IX's frog/theft grinding. I've never truly 100% IX though in that I've never done an Excalibur 2 run.

Necron is the opposite to the crystal, and they form a logical pair.

Crystal = life and memory
Necron = death and oblivion

Brahne had to have the black mages channel their energy in some manner to summon Bahamut, if you forgot. >dumbfucks miss the themes of the game just like in FF8 and complain Necron has no foreshadowing
Necron is the end point of all the game's themes, the characters find their meaning of what is to live, but Kuja cannot. And the truth of his existence as an inferior is too much to bear, this opposite force combined with the release of the power of the crystal (by its shattering) summons a being who embodies Kuja's feelings, and is ready to destroy the world. Kuja did not want the world to continue without him

Once again dumb fucks can't get simple JRPG stories and their themes. Just goes to show how simple FF7 was, since every moron got it but couldn't understand FF8 or 9

It does make me feel like the localizations needed the verbal ticks to make the dumb Western audience understand, although I feel Rinoa's personality was easy to get, as was Kuja's

>FF7's story is stupid.
FF7's story is fucking awesome, you mean.

Evil mutagenic shapeshifting lifeforce-vampire alien crashes to earth. The planet (which is sentient) tries to destroy the alien using drastic measures, while the treehugging denizens of the planet manage to seal the alien (but almost all perish in the process). One or two thousand years later, a bunch of fuckhead non-treehugging humans unseal the alien and clone it. The resulting human/alien-clone hybrid (believing that its alien "mother" is the worthy inheritor of the planet) tries to help the alien use a giant meteorite to crack the planet open like an egg so the alien can suck all the runny goodness out and then ride the empty shell like a surfboard across space and find another planet to crack open and eat the contents of. Your characters (including a guy who is jacked up on mutagenic alien cells that are mindfucking him) have to stop the alien and its humanoid clonebaby. Also, the planet, realizing the alien is back, goes back to its original plan of trying to fight the alien using gigantic Evangelion-style biological robots, which your characters also end up having to stop.

It's a simple, fun story, brimming with eldritch abominations, giant biological robots, sentient planets, evil clonebabies, etc... I can't wait for Square Enix to completely fuck it all up in the remake. I mean just literally fucking ruin it on every level. Take a wonderful, wacky JRPG adventure and just skullfuck it to death by taking everything too seriously, y'know?

It represents the consequences of power and peoples desire to continuously gain more.

The Lunar Cry is established as a counterpoint to the success of Sorceress Adel and the Estharian army.

Ones desire for power, and rule ultimately creates the very atmosphere for every event in the entire ff8 universe.

Without the Lunar Cry the conditions for ff8 wouldn't exist

In that regard it's like an earthquake, or other natural event. People often live in areas where natural events can cause deaths, notice I didn't use disaster since disaster is an outdated term based on the assumption that the particular event was unknown to occur.

Going back to the Lunar Cry, we can assume that it's the same kind of natural event, occurring without regards to human kind.

Like how nature acts in ways that go beyond our level of though, as if nature is not inclined to answer our questions, it rarely is without proper probing.

However Sorceress Adel goes too far, and when Esthar discovers the crystal pillar they've achieved a way to artifically create these natural events, to draw more and more monsters onto the world.

These Artificial Lunar Cry's act as the binding that brings the whole world together. It's one of the main reasons Dr. Ondine

Lunar Cry is the greed of humans. Humans actively and knowingly put themselves in areas/situations which are knowingly negative.

But why does the moon cry for humanity? Because of what humanity does to itself, to each other. The need for power, the desire for that power and control it causes the moon to cry.

To show it's displeasure in the only way it can, to fight against the rule of humanity and it's greed it tries to introduce a foreign life.

One thats meant to unite people, to focus on whats important, to instill morals and ideas of togetherness and dispel ones of personal greed and the pursuit of power.

FFIX's steal algorithm is so complex that, 15 years later, there STILL isn't a code to modify a steal rate to 100% without something else fucking up too.

The gardens are apparently ancient Centra constructs that were remodeled into awesome gigantic moving mercenary orphanages. Esthar is also a remnant of Centra technology.

Zeal's magic was all powered by Lavos.

12,000 BC, the Zeal kingdom had the Mammon Machine for harvesting Lavos's power

Well when I played the game I was 10, so I honestly missed that.

I guess I should go back and replay it, everything I wrote earlier is probably incredibly wrong and I just look retarded.
>>
>>320966328
I would love to be proven wrong. But even the best ones generally rely on taking no turns in between stealing or an item in the steal list will get skipped entirely. Shit is fucking unreal.
>>
>>320966598
I mean, it's not particularly subtle.

There's a big fucking FMV of an egg menstruating all over Esthar because it was attracted by a floating phallos. Not everything can or should be read as sexual but this time it's inarguable. It's tied to the whole feminine power thing the sorceresses have going on. Esthar isn't incidental in this either. It's characterised by being very sterile and clean, with focus on technology instead of magic or nature, which makes it distinctly masculine and explains why being hit by Lunar Cry is presented as the apocalypse.
