by becoming a niche handheld. while its not getting big triple a support it still gets third party support in alot of japanese games. If your into japanese games and like portability its got that coverd.
Japan is focused on an increasingly mobile market plus third party support with lots of otaku and fanservice games

These legit confuse me.
The Vita gets a variety of titles, often higher budget than most portable games on the market. I agree in that many are Japanese, nut what part of the mobile market that isn't phone games is?
The fact remains the Vita is still receiving staggering support and that trend is largely unchanging.

It managed to survive because Sony tried to kill it off, however stupid it might sound.
Because of no first party support and the fact it was abandoned as a mainstream dudebro gaming console, it managed to fall into a very weird niche. It has a dedicated userbase with a very high attach rate. Plus, because of how niche it is, the userbase tends to get exactly the games they want, and often obscure stuff still get brought over to the West and people actually DO buy it.

Playing Ninja Gaiden on a portable is comfy if you don't mind trading 30 fps for portability. The graphics are impressive for a handheld.

And its tough to compare something like Lumines to Ys. Games are really fucking different you know?
Like one is a decent action rpg, the other one is a good puzzle game. Really depends on what you want right now.
