It has a reputation of being really hard and people that haven't played it usually believe it. It's harder than Skyrims and Fallouts and most other new games though. I'd say Kirby 1 level difficulty. Hardest boss fight is probably something like Congalala from Monster Hunter or first level in FF Tactics.

I bought it in the steam sale for 5 bucks and beat it yesterday.
My only advice is if you have many routes available and dont know where to go, use the one with the easiest enemies.
As in, if the one you chose is very hard, try another one, it may not be the intended route.
I played blind and skipped the whole DLC, the painted world, didnt return to the assylum, and didnt fight the real god behind the tittymonster.

That god boss is neat enough for a little extra content, but its definatley worth hitting the DLC if you're willing to get that far in again (it doesnt open up until the games 2nd act or so I think). Pretty much everything in the DLC is much harder than the rest of the game though, the games most brutal bosses for sure. Also the best place to farm humanity though...

Honestly same works for Skyrim. If you are not careful or patient and just walk into a trap in the dungeon you will get wrecked. DaS has more carefully and smarter placed ambushes though.
Don't level up resistance
Dump into vitality for health and endurance for stamina/equip load
Equip load determines roll speed: 25% and under lets you fast roll, 25-50% is midroll, 50% and higher is fatroll (slower and shittier)
Starting class/equipment doesn't matter too much but at least pick one that looks like an ideal character you'd play
Don't sprint all the time and only roll when you have to, your character takes more damage if they're hit while running or dodging
Bring a divine weapon when you do catacombs
If you see a dragon, cut its tail off
Mimics can be easily distinguished from regular chestsIf the chain isn't coiled then it's a mimic
Kill the merchant in undead burg, he drops all the useful shit he sells plus a cool katana

in my second playthrough I will use a guide to not miss everything, also, to save the npcs since I killed Solaire (he was crazy with the sunlight maggot), and it seems like I left Sigmeyer to die in the depths.
The game is really good, except for Lost Izalith and Bed of Chaos.
Makes you want to replay it with different weapons and tactics.

The first blacksmith you get to (which isn't much far after) sells ammunition, as well as the bonfire items for storing and repairing shit. The merchant literally serves no purpose other than to be killed, and maybe buy a heater shield if you don't already have a 100% phys reduction shield.

Go play the game. Don't use guides.
Learn enemy attack patterns.
Points in VIT or END are never wasted.
Points in RES are always wasted.
Understand what the game is trying to tell/show you.
Can't beat that boss? Skip him and come back later.
This game isn't hard. Learn your attacks and your enemies attacks and you'll get through it.
Death means nothing in this game. Don't take it as a "Gameover" screen and more like "You didn't make the right decision, try again."
