If you could freeze gaming and internet culture in any year, what would you choose?
All games released from that point on will have similar graphics and design standards from that year.
I vote 2007. Maybe 2008.

Has your nostalgia gotten so bad that you think it would be a good idea to go back 7 or 8 years in gaming?
>>320918668
>tf2 at its peak, WoW was still on the cliff and hadnt fallen off yet, CS was still pretty good, people still played melee all the damn time, RTS was still a genre, halo hadnt gotten old yet, there were still good ww2 shooters if you looked hard enough
fuck you dude, 2007 was an amazing, amazing year
>>320918168
I would say 2005 honestly.

>Halo as a selling point
Babby's first FPS

>the first Halo wasnt good
Ive been playing fps longer than you and this categorically wrong.
>>320919050
crysis came out in 07 too
>>320918668
That's exactly the point of the thread. You think you're being clever by stating the obvious?
>>320920502
>Ive been playing fps longer than you
Holy neo-/v/, Batman. Best watch what you say. My brother works for steam and he'll ban you.
>>320920659

The first Halo was good. Decent story, fun levels, decent AI, good multiplayer...
I don't think I've liked any Halo besides the first one.
>>320918168
>gaming and internet culture
Why do you care? There will always be fags.
6th generation(2004-2005).
>games were released finished, not rushed to release and patched later
>no heavy emphasis on DLC
>>320919050
>implying the downfalls to all those games wasn't already standard in that year
You can't win. MMOs died because WoW changed the game and alternatives to online gaming outside of MMOs was becoming the norm. It won't not happen after that point, and likely would have been worse. RTS was stagnant already and would have stayed more irrelevant than it is today. Shooters would still be very similar to today, although I will give you that single player would still be more interesting than it has become. With less hats.
There is no point in time that wouldn't have downsides, but picking the year on the edge of when things "went bad", as many people will claim, wouldn't help. The change was already in place and it was just then noticeable to the majority. It would just become a similarly shitty modern era without any of the benefits we did get with natural progression in the trade off.
So unless you really liked shooters with decent single player campaigns, and not much else, 2007 is a shit year to pause on.

Now this guy gets where to aim the nostalgia goggles.
>>320921875
>look at all these things that would happen
do you understand the point of this thread?
spoiler:no
>>320919050
Vanilla WoW was shit dude.
Also TF2 peaked in 2008-10. Vanilla TF2 was broken shit.
>>320922237
I do.
Your choice sucks. Mine's better.
>>320918168
