There feels like there was so many of these games, I have fond though fragmented memories of all of them. I saw a friend play the first one and that looked boring but the rest of them were great, fun worlds and crazy guns.

I never thought the dialogue was funny or anything more than quirky in a lame way but still good fucking games.

How is it underrated?

It's regarded as good-great by almost all the Ratchet and Clank fanbase, was massively critically acclaimed and sold pretty well.

It's a fantastic game but not at all some kind of hidden gem.

This is now a Ratchet and Clank thread. Post favourite

Please. I haven't met anyone who really dislikes A Crack in Time.

You're always gonna have people talking up the original trilogy, but A Crack in Time is a respected game, overall.

If you want a real underrated game, let's talk about Tools of Destruction.

That was really fucking good, but I don't really remember its plot besides Talwyn appearing. I rememeber Quest for Booty even more than I do ToD. I'll have to replay it.

Never played it. Were the weapons any good? At some point, I felt like the series was getting too formulaic with its weapons. Especially Tools of Destruction. You have your blaster, your bomb glove, a machine gun, a shotgun type, a saw blade gun, a flamethrower, and some beam sniper. I remember thinking that the coolest weapons in ToD were the Razor Claws but they kind of sucked overall because they couldn't stun anything and they didn't do very much damage until charged to red.

Someone didn't use the Magnet Launcher to keep them in place and then go beast on the stunned enemies. ToD is a really good game, it has one of my favorite upgrade systems with the raritanium.
>>
>>320916369
Sorry forgot weapons:
Dual vipers and fusion rifle.
>>
>>320916375
Because GC had lots of great original assets and a preferable aesthetic. UYA reused lots of stuff (eg music), and I dislike post-ToD due to bad weapons and meme weapons. RaC 1-4 are all great though.

>>320916973
I honestly don't see how anyone could play both RC1 and CiT and say that RC1 is better.

CiT feels like the definitive Ratchet game to me. It fixes all my problems with the older games and its additions only add to the experience. Everything just feels so smooth and there's more to explore/do. But to each their own, I suppose.

>>320917914
The graphics are definitely superb in CiT, and there is a lot to do, but I found it far more repetitive than any other R&C game. Enemy variety is virtually non-existent (compared to previous games), NPC variety if virtually non-existent other than le goofy *MEEP* aliens, and endless amounts of moons that feel the same every time with increased difficulty. The weapon ammo counts are also very annoying, eg. the main blaster having 60(?) ammo capacity at the start, compared to 150 in 1 and 2.
>>
Size Matters was alright too to be fair
>>
>>320917914
>It fixes all my problems with the older games and its additions only add to the experience.

I disagree regarding the 'additions'
Levels in ACIT are significantly more linear, there are rarely ever (if any) branching paths, there is hardly any exploring and almost all collectibles are just hidden behind a corner with a bolt trail blatantly leading you towards it.
Space overworlds and all the moons were really neat, but it was at a resource cost to the actual levels I'm still not convinced was worth it

It's still a solid game, one of the best, but it's below GC and UYA

I love Resistance as well although 2 is the ugly bastard child it still excels in certain areas.

3 felt like a great combination of classic FPS (non regenerating health, weapon wheel) mixed with modern FPS (aim down sights, the same control scheme as everything else etc...), it was something that hasn't really happened before. Wolfenstien TNO is like this as well.

I still prefer Fall of Man, as it's a similar hybrid of old and new, but leans heavier towards old with fast movement (but no sprint) and lots of strafing to avoid bullets, level design is also very old school FPS. Shame it's story was so obviously just something made up to fit the levels.
>>
>>320929717

Not to mention it had a good balance on regen health with health pickups. You lose too much, you could be fucked unless you find a health pack. Honestly, I felt 2 was better paced and controlled better. Though I won't deny the full on regenerating health took away a lot of the stress the original game created

All 3 of the first 2 Ratchet games are the best in my opinion just because they have a better feel to them.

The overall design of things and story in general became too important in the PS3 games. The writing was better in the first 3 despite story being less important.

Not to mention they replaced the great memorable soundtracks the first 3 games had for generic orchestral bullshit.

To be honest the clank sections are around the hardest the series has ever had.

The "control the bots and throw the banana" sections are literally "wait a minute that card" tier stuff.

>>320934840
Because it was made by a group of ex-ND, ex-Imsomniac employees. Rip Dan, though.
>>
>>320930067
Controller layout is irrelevant since it was fully remapable (at least in 1&2).

2 suffered from all the things that have ruined post Modern Warfare FPS.

> You're slow as shit. You can't dodge anything, so you just have to hide behind cover or tank the damage.
> regenerating health means tanking damage and hiding for 10 seconds is a viable stragedy.
> Hipfire accuracy is dogshit, you have to stay still or move like a snail to use anything properly unless your at point blank range. Further promotes sitting behind cover.
> 2 weapon limit means your mode of engaging the enemy is limited to what the devs want you to do, you can't "save it for later" since having 1 gun is neutering yourself and you lose it all at the end of every mission anyway.

2 had some great missions and levels, but they would have been so much better with FOM or 3's gameplay.
>>
>>320934960
>The "control the bots and throw the banana" sections are literally "wait a minute that card" tier stuff.

Clank gameplay prior to CIT always was, the devs themselves have admitted to this
the reason clank gameplay is full of wacky robots and a zany bananna gun and shit like that is because at its core the gameplay is very basic and they needed to distract you from that in order to make it fun
>>
>>320934642
>All the graphics are blurry as fuck

This was as a result of the low internal resolution of 960x704 and a somewhat iffy framerate. Tools of Destruction had the same low resolution, but ACiT also used some weird AA technique which blurs it further. Digital foundry said "we peg A Crack in Time at 960x704 in the final analysis, but the proprietary AA buffer merging technique does an astonishingly good job of creating the effect of native 720p, albeit with a slight blur.".

And here's a framerate analysis. Skip to the Ratchet part in the second half.

>>
>>320935469
Gameplay combines the fucking gameplay aspects of the game whether it's platforming, shooting, collecting whatever.

Fun is literally just "fun" which means nothing on its own. Saying gameplay is a buzzword is the same as saying how graphics are a buzzword or how music is a buzzword or whatever.
>>
>>320934874
>I'm calling you out on thinking that the length of the game is more important than the actual content in that time

>your rating metric is absolute shit

Yet you agree with it. It has good gameplay, so it's on good tier. Your original complaint was about not giving credit and disregarding games, yet credit was given where credit was due. It's not like ITN is as good as UYA or ACiT.
