I just finished this game.

It's arguably the worst battle system in the genre.
They took the FF11 system and removed everything from it, all you do is watch auto attacks because they didn't give any of the jobs real abilities to use. Gambits are great and are totally wasted on this barren system, all you get to use them for is your mages and using potions.

You misread the post as most people tend to do, gambits had nothing to do with the combat being dull.
The issue is that there isn't anything to do on non mage characters, they just auto attack. There is no teamwork, no weapon skills, not even a threat system outside of the decoy spell, and you can't even make non controlled characters stop circling the enemy on their own. Basically you spend the whole game watching your melee characters do nothing but auto attack and your only real input is playing your mage and using potions, not that fun.

There is something about FF12 that literally fulfills my autism needs in a JRPG.

Why does everyone think Ashe is power-hungry toward the end? She's never done anything remotely power-hungry or vengeful. Why does Balthier let Vaan and Penelo fly his ship at the end? They have literally zero experience flying airships.

I liked FF12. I thought the battle system and gameplay was fun. I liked how you were responsible for building the character's progress and the weapons they were allowed to use. Fran doesn't have to be an archer, I like seeing her as a katana wielding bunny. Many of the enemies were difficult to beat, and you needed to match their weaknesses with your spells and weapons.
Where does Vayne get the Bahamut at the end? They say he dug it up somewhere but I don't remember any details.

yeah maybe I did misread my b, with my melees I just used techniques to try and counter that, though most of those were pretty situational. I most every character at least some form of magic and tired to vary that in terms of type.
