How do people find this fun? It's annoying as hell
>>
Gotta catch them all
>>
Seriously though, what's the appeal? Just catching everything?
>>
don't actually catch them all unless you're an autist
>>
use repel
>>
>>320885932
Protip: You can buy an item called "repel" that turns off all random encounters. Also you dont actually have to catch them all to beat the game. You just have to become the champion.
>>
Only 90s kids will understand the appeal, sorry OP.
>>
>>320886734
You don't have to catch everything, you don't even have to beat the game really, that was part of the appeal.
>>
>>320885932
>he's too casual even for pokemon

You should probably off yourself at this point
>>
>>320886734
If you really need to ask the appeal of pokemon, it's not for you.
It's a glorified tamagochi. Some people really feel a conection with their pokemon. Some people enjoy the competitive gameplay. Some people enjoy feeling the pokedex, and some people enjoy just playing the story and becoming the champ.
There's always tons of shit to do, and if you like the base content you'll probably enjoy the game for years.
Also the new versions even have custom characters and even more pointless yet fun shit like the battle mansion for you to play trough

Different anon here, don't play HG/SS, a lot of faggots, mostly on /vp/ hail it as the greatest pokemon game of all time. It's not, though, it's just a nostalia wankfest that did nothing to fix the problems of the original games.

Gen V is pretty good if you don't mind the generic shonen plot shoved down your throat, and Emerald is the best game of gen III. gen IV was cancer incarnate.

Also the best pokemon games are the spinoffs, like the mystery dungeon games.
>>
>>320887582
I really like gen 5 (pokemon black/white and pokemon black/white 2)
Those are the most fleshed out games imo, also the soundtrack's fucking awesome
Pokemon x/y is really good but it really dropped the ball in terms of story, and it tends to chug like hell in some battles. Sometimes the framerate cuts itself in half wich is kind of annoying. The game is still enjoyable tho.
>>
>>320887841
The spin offs are a tricky bunch.
Some people LOVE mistery dungeon and the like, but some find it absolutly boring, like me.
>>
>>320887117
>a glorified tamagochi
Considering the games came out almost a year before the tamagotchis, this is a false assertion.
They're essentially a mix of bug catching, gachapon balls, hat trading, and cock-fighting.

Tamagotchis and pokemon have nothing in common aside from having monsters that evolve.
The closest comparison you can make is that it's a multiplayer kid-friendly SMT type game.

>>
>>320887582
gen 1/2 are boring and buggy, but might be nostalgic
FRLG/RS are good for nostalgia sake but that's it
Emerald is great but limited, battle frontier is hard as fuck
DP/HGSS are boring and take forever to get through
Platinum takes forever to finish and is decently challenging, but hated because m-muh originals
BW are shit and short
BW2 are better in every way but still somewhat lacking in charm, PWT is the best thing
XY are shit
ORAS are decent but could have been much better if they took some cues from emerald

Spinoffs generally suck, with the exception of mystery dungeon series

You should be embarrassed.

>>320886734
Pokemon on its own is a mediocre RPG series gameplay-wise, but it gives the player a lot of ways to play the game. For the main game, you're able to build a team from a selection of 151 Pokemon. With each generation, this number grew so now you can choose between 720 Pokemon. You're bound to find at least one that appeals to you. Then there's post-game. Some people just want to collect all the Pokemon and complete the Pokedex. Others want to battle against other players. Both playstyles can cause you to sink hours into the games if you truly get into it.

I think you need to have some sort of imagination to be able to enjoy these games, just like any role-playing game really.

Do not believe that Unovabortion.
Gen V is by far the WORST fucking generation.
Awful pokemon designs, terrible starters, shit story, forgettable characters, Powercreep coming out of it's ass, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. If you're going to play any of the Gen V games, play B2 or W2, they're actually pretty decent. B1 and W1 are absolute fucking garbage.
HG/SS are pretty much unanimously considered the best pokemon games, the only flaw people cry about is
>muh level curve
Which nobody actually cares about.

>>
I never had any desire to catch them all as a kid, I don't get how it was brain washing to get kids to buy money until the cards came out.
>>
>>320890395
The only problem that HGSS didn't fix was the fact that Johto Pokemon were pretty scarce early on in the game.
>>
>>320890861
You have to find a retard willing to stay in on slowbro with a physical mon that has no SE moves. Also funbro got banned for being too much fun, madmin could not handle the massive amount of fun it caused.
>>
>>320891008
It also didn't fix the level scaling, nor did it fix the pathetically laughable selection of dark-type moves, despite it being 2 generations, nor did it fix the wasteland that kanto was, in the GB era it was acceptable because that was all they could fit, but that was not the case with HGSS It also gained all the issues of gen IV, main one being slow as fuck.
>>
>>320889197
there's a .8% likelihood of it missing thrice in a row, which means that it will happen to someone
.16% for 4

take note that I said likelihood (since each miss is independent of the others, and you have a 20% chance to miss each time), and 80% is far worse accuracy than people think

>>320889547
level curve was kind of dumb, even if HG/SS is my favorite

nothing like every opponent except Blue in Kanto being in their mid 40s
nothing like getting to Red with everyone in your party in the upper 40s/low 50s
nothing like beating him with very little effort

>>320891260
It's not that slow. D/P was slow as fuck. Platinum and HG/SS were only slightly slower than the Gen 3 games.
>>
>>320891260
>level scaling
The level scaling is fine in HGSS, you can easily defeat Red without ever having to grind against wild Pokemon.

>dark type moves
The selection wasn't too bad. I'd argue that the physical/special split made dark-type moves mroe useful since most dark-types were physical attackers. Although having only one special dark move sucked, but at least it was a pretty useful move (Dark Pulse).

Kanto had a lot more to do than in GSC. They brought back Cerulean Cave and Viridian Forest and Rock Climb gave you a few more areas to explore. I believe that there were a lot more Kanto trainers in the remake too. Although Kanto was already a fairly barren region to begin with, even in the gen 1 games and their remakes. And even in the state that it's in, Kanto still has more to do post-game wise than pretty much every other Pokemon game.

>speed
If you're referring to the movement speed, the speed of the game was on par with Platinum, which greatly improved D/P's speed. It's still somewhat slow compared to gen 3, although pretty much every gen is. If you're talking about the pace of the story, then every Pokemon game since gen 4 suffers from that handholding shit that slows the game to a crawl, particularly gen 5 and 6.
>>
>>320891560

also
>arguing NPC difficulty
blizzard/shadow ball/crunch/giga impact says hi.

>dark-type moves
Only dragon- and ghost- were worse, but at least dragons typically have outrage/claw/meteor/pulse. it's really fucking pathetic the moves most dark pokemon have access to. Like you said, most are physical attackers, so shit like embargo does nothing for them.

>th-the speed wasn't that bad!
yes it was you double nigger, I played gen HG on desmume sped up x5 and shit was still obnoxiously slow. Gen IV is slow as shit, regardless of it being Pt/HGSS/DP. There is no fixing it.
