I really wanted to work in Villager and Olimar to round out big relevant franchises but I couldn't scrap anyone else from the original 64 version beyond Jigglypuff. I think what I pick rounds out the roster a lot conceptually while also getting most of the main picks in there.
If I had the choice of melee's 26 character roster, I'd probably add in Villager, Olimar, Bowser, Mewtwo, Peach, Ganondorf, Game & Watch, King Dedede, Pit, Wii Fit Trainer, and Mii. Not that I'd particularly want Mii or Wii Fit as much as I would Mac or Cloud, I just think they're more iconic and would balance out the roster's make up more.

The game is called Super Smash Bros. 64 Remake. The game recreates everything in the game and also adds a few new bits of content, such as the single-player exclusive stages now being available in Versus and the additions of originally-planned villains Bowser, King Dedede, and Mewtwo. Due to the smaller roster, characters have their movesets both from Smash 64 and Smash 4 and now have more moves than they originally had in the Nintendo 64 game (Final Smashes, custom specials, etc.). The game will launch on Wii U sometime in 2016 as an e-Shop title, costing $19.99.
