Fast and fun

I thought there was going to be arampant trolling around but not really

The game is unforgiving enough to try it solo, and feels good to be almost down and pinned to the ground and somebody reacts to your distress call and other players join your game to rescue you
>>
>>320860550
you know the game is good because it isn't talked about on /v/
the people who enjoy it actually play it
>>
>>320860873
Definitely controller i guess. Also you can either tackle with friends only, private or pause and set public mode, so whenever somebody can join your ongoing mission and help out. Or you can look for distress signals on your bridge and join people in the cause.

Yesterday there was the war against the Cyborgs almost done. Today I woke up and lost 3 sectors already in that direction.

Helldiver community pls

>>320860873
controller should be comfier but isn't for some reason, way too inaccurate in a "twinstick shooter" where accuracy is pretty important

The game is basically this:

SUPER EARTH is the cradle of Freedoms and Democracies across the galaxy, and right now 3 different identified species are threatening all that is good and righteous to our planet. So you and the whole community are doing drops to retake important positions in a map and take the war to the enemies home planet. If the community claims their homeworld the war in won and the ladders reset.

It's Magicka with 40k. Friendly fire is on, everything deals stupid damage to you, and you have to plan early your route across the objectives and map. You can call defensive shit and mechs and weapons and supplies to last until the shuttle arrives and rescues you after you've done the mission.

The easier difficulty can be brutal to a single player. Coop is seriously needed.

Base game's stuff is serviceable as is.
Buy any dlc that would fit your play-style.

Camera is shit and so far the missions and monsters have been pretty repetitive. I do enjoy that they have put a lot of features in the game that kind of forces you to work together but so far i am not all that impressed by it.

>>
>>320862189
There are some useful dlc items (like the drone that displays samples and hidden objectives) but theres a lot just in the base game.
A Dlc pack usually adds one outfit set, one weapon and about 2-4 new strats.
If you get them all you almost double the number of outfits, weapons, and strats.

Hard levels can be solo'd as well but require a completely different play style. Running away and completing or failing objectives as fast as possible is key.

well the pack that comes with the plasma gun and the grenade launcher is really damn good.

That's the only one i'd recommend buying.
>>
Why are there a billion dlcs for this game?
>>
>>320860873
It was ps3/4 first so it's built for twin sticks. But the mouse is just way more accurate. If you want accuracy with a controller you'll need to waste a perk on laser sights, otherwise you're just pointing and guessing. M/KB users get a crosshair where their pointer is.
>>
I've been wanting to get it, but I've been waiting till the Winter sale which starts tomorrow.

Hopefully it'll be discounted. If not, I'll buy it anyway.

My only question is whether or not all the DLC is worth it since it effectively doubles the cost of the game?
>>
>>320867790
>If you want accuracy with a controller you'll need to waste a perk on laser sights, otherwise you're just pointing and guessing.

That's the point. You either use a laser sight to know where you're aiming, or you just point at their general direction and hope you'll hit.

M/KB is basically completely taking away this element from the game.
>>
>>320867848
>since it effectively doubles the cost of the game?
That's the issue. The DLC stuff is a nice addition, but for literally half the price of the goddamn game it's just not worth it.
>>
>>320867680
I think the concept was that each dlc would be a new "character" with its own unique weapons, look, and strats. They have created about 8 new character (more maybe) and then they have mini bundles and a major bundle.

>What is the Galactic Campaign?
>By playing Helldivers, every player (both PC and PlayStation players) in the world participates in the same global meta campaign called the Galactic Campaign. Each time a player completes a planet their progress is uploaded and their contribution to the Galactic Campaign will be registered. From time to time, the enemy will try to counterattack, spawning events where you have to defend a city planet from invading enemies.

PRETTY SURE the $20 bundle is just a bundle of the DLCs, which does NOT include the base game.
>>
>>320871660
what's a planet reward and why is the game mechanic enticing you from helping in the meta game... shouldn't the devs encourage players to act as a team? seems like the reward system is broken?
>>
>>320867060
boots are only useful if you are solo or everyone on the team has them. There is no point to them if you're the only one out of your team of 4 that has them.
>>
>>320871679
Difficulty is stated in what planet you pick in a sector.
More objectives and enemies show up in higher levels.
>>
>>320860550

>>
>>320871932
stratagem rewards for completing all the missions on a planet

you only get them once though, so I wouldn't say it's necessarily broke.
>>
Will be getting once on sale.

Also, steam sales when? We've pasted the usual sales date now.
>>
>>320871679
Yes. Enemies are more frequent, more enemy types, more mission, and spawning is infinite.
>>
>>320872087
Vita is fine though controls can be annoying. Reload and grenades are mapped to a sliding motion on the rear touch pad. It can be fixed by remapping the vitas controls but then if u want to play a diffrtent game youll have to restore the vita to its default controls.
>>
Is this one of those shitty top-down games?
>>
>>320872087
It's not bad, but you understand the game will take a hit. The frame rate isn't as good, but barely runs at a serviceable level during heavy combat. The effects are also greatly reduced. You will also have less hud information displayed in regards to what your teammates are using. But it's not bad. You'll have fun but it won't look as good

They both have advantages, unless you absolutely want to play with controller, I would stick with keyboard.

>game costs the same as Witcher 3 with Expansion pass or GTA5 in my region
>DLC pack costs more than the base game.
Sony gonna Sony. It ain't Playstation, I'm not going to buy this game for this price.
>>
>>320862524
Maybe you shouldn't play on babby difficulty.
>>
>>320864964
>2 players
>Play kill x amount of enemies mission
>out of ammo an everything
>call down a tank
>kill everyone
>extraction beacon lands on our tank, killing us both in the process
>mission failed
it's alright. Game is pretty fun.
>>
>>320882663
Some motherfuckers kicked me from a game because I ran onto the drop ship rather than revive everyone. Which might be understandable if we weren't fucking surrounded with five seconds left to go and I hadn't actually thrown the beacon already. I thought it would wait for the rest of them to drop in.
>>
>>320882767
You could just not buy the DLC.
>>
>>320882961
>>320882961

so something that would rightfully be regarded as broken is somehow extra fun in this game?

Can this run on toasters?

Got this game ages ago, and the dev couldn't keep the servers up half the time.

Couldn't stand this game with pubbies. If they didn't turn it into a friendly fire simulator, they were dragging out missions wasting precious resources on killing monsters. The game only rewards you for completing objectives and finding artifacts.

Most of the lower missions could be soloed with a bit of stealth and the right gear. Lower midlevel missions need a bit of luck. After that, you're stuck dealing with pubbies.
>>
>>320883229
The extraction beacon has a giant fucking marker you can see well before it drops

He and his partner fucked up, not the games fault

Stop being such a fucking casual cry baby
>>
>>320883229
How is it broken? Drop ships are fucking heavy. One kills a squad in the games trailer so its not like you wouldn't know about it.
>>
>>320883057
A lot of items in DLCs are straight up better and more useful.
Even without DLC, this game costs more than Witcher 3 and close to GTA5 especially with all these sales.
And if I want to get them later I have to pay almost triple the price I will play for DD bundle
>>
>>320883342
>precious resources
>stealthing
>using "the right gear"

holy shit I am so glad you're not playing anymore because you sound like anti-fun.
>>
>>320883318
i get 20-30 fps at around higher settings (i dont remember if there actually are settings to change shit) on a computer that would have been bad 9 years ago.

Airstrikes, especially fire ones, lag me to fucking hell
>>
>>320883519
Yeah precious resources generally arent something you can just call down to replenish at will.

Well yeah I do kill all the scouts I come accross.
>>
>>320883931
Well what the fuck else would you come across to sneak past then? Laser snipers, stealth bugs and robo dogs? No reason to leave them alive.
>>
>>320883519
You will never see anything past the starter missions without serious coordination from your teammates.

Have fun deleting the game from your hard drive in a week.

my group of friends just fuck around and we've cleared a hell dive and plenty of less difficult missions

>>
>>320885595
I've never seen this happen to anyone.
Don't stand right next to the beacon.
>>
>>320885746
Ive done this and it was somewhat common when the game first launched. You get so engaged in fighting off enemies you forget about the shuttle or not notice youve creeped onto the landing zone.

well I just played my first game, solo since I have no friends

did 2 level 1 missions against the bugs and they were pretty easy, saw that the ethereals have their homeworld under siege so I went in on a level 3 mission and got rekt

Guess I need to play with other people.
>>
>>320889584
The game takes a little getting used to.
Practice, upgrade, and group up.
>>
>>320889584
I found level 3 missions easy enough solo, but past that I preferred having another person around. It's still not that hard to do higher level missions by yourself, but doing them in a group is more entertaining a lot of the time.
>>
>>320892285
well I kept getting spotted by those floating scouts who would then call in those little walkers who kept overwhelming me. Also there was a sniper dude but he wasn't a problem. I was trying to take control points and because guys are constantly spawning I didn't even have time to call in any support or anything.

>>

On my first few level 3 missions, I got through without much fighting by spamming radar. If you have a good idea where the scouts are at all times, it's a lot easier to either avoid them or shoot them (though the Illuminate scouts are still some of the most obnoxious). When it came time to do a stationary objective, I'd drop a machine gun turret, lay on the ground, and move in the opposite directions of incoming patrols. If the laser sniper guys target your turret outside of its range, run up to him quickly and rape his face, then lay down again. Move around as much as possible; if patrols catch you, run the fuck away and don't look back until they've given up. Don't bother fighting summons unless it's really worth it.
>>
>>320893959
is it really viable to avoid them?

what kind of loadout do you like? I got the digital deluxe edition and I'm kind of overwhelmed by the amount of choice I have so I've just been staying with mainly basic stuff. I went down with the autoshotgun as my main weapon, a turret, heavy machine gun, flamethrower, and extra ammo. I tried using close air support a bit but whenever I was in serious trouble I didn't have time to call it in.

>>320860550
What is the lack of player customization?
Literally male and female make no difference.
Theres no lewd armor for females.
Nor color palettes for armor.
The rest of the game I have no gripe with though.
Pretty solid game.

I bet you're just INCREDIBLY bearable in public. Just...ABSOLUTELY the pinnacle of conversation.

.....quit fucking nit picking jesus christ.

Different armor, helmet, and capes.
Your point?
You're in the military, dumbass.
Color palettes are to differentiate between factions.

Without Distractor Beacon some conflict with patrols is inevitable since they like to crowd around objectives, but a large amount of them can be avoided by slipping around their movement patterns, yes.

I don't have any of the dlc so I can't weigh in on the options, but for the playstyle I'm suggesting, short- to mid-range weapons aren't ideal. My favorite early weapon for Illuminate was the Scythe, but even the default rifle is plenty good enough for level 3 missions. When I didn't have much in the way of good weapons or stratagems, my generic go-to was two turrets and two ammo. You probably don't need the ammo that much with an upgraded Scythe, but the turrets are obviously really helpful for capturing and waiting for the shuttle.
