This game is absolute crap, what the fuck? It plays like a fucking mod with the clunkiest movement and gun play ever. It's like a shittier RO2 that has been given away for FREE on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS and still doesn't manage to get more than 2k players online.

It's a waste of like 45 minutes and a waste of a server because inevitably the losing team just drops out. I'd rather play something where both teams have more equal footing.
Then again, it goes back to the teams, though. It's rare I ever get into a game where both sides are roughly equally skilled. Usually one side just steamrolls the other and for some reason the teams never get rebalanced. This is my biggest gripe with this game, and why I always end up uninstalling it.
It's a great fast paced objective oriented shooter. Problem is that most players treat it like a slow paced deathmatch. (Some fault can be placed on the developers seeing as all of their ads are filled with "tactical" footage, rather than actual gameplay of people playing efficiently).
Nearly every game you will play there are one or two players in the server who understand how to play the objectives properly and they will hard carry their teams. (Be mindful of the scores at the end of a match, and you will notice one person on average will be far above the rest of his team) In the event these two people are on the same team you get a mind-numbingly boring match.
The objectives make this game great, not the gunplay alone. I think the devs would agree seeing as there has never been and no plans to include an official deathmatch mode. If they did include DM I'd bet my left nut that every shitter that loves Sinjar Push would switch to Sinjar DM.
I would play competitive but there are so few servers/people playing it, and I'd be lying if I said I enjoy the game with <10 players.
tl;dr never get good at this game or don't play it properly and you will thoroughly enjoy it. Or just play coop if thats your thing.

You got it backwards.
The people who think they bought a $5 Arma 3 are the slow assholes who waste points on accessorizing their bolt actions and sit 100 meters of an objective and refuse to move even if the objective is being contested.
The people who are playing it like CoD are actually useful seeing they get into the face of the opponent and will aggressively defend/attack an objective. They too might waste points on frivolous gear, but due to their superior play style they tend to out maneuver/flank their opponents, so the waste doesn't have as much of an impact.
I'm sorry to break it to ya but this game is far more compatible with a COD style of play than an Arma style of play.

Only for enjoyment. They aren't efficient, much like bolt actions. ROF is too low for them to be effective against equally priced semi/fully automatic rifles, which will kill a target in one shot anyways. (Assuming AP, and if you don't have AP you can fire many shots long before the shotgun will fire it's second, still making the rifle a superior choice). They would need to bump up shotguns ROF and make slugs kill targets in heavy armor in one shot for them to be remotely viable.

Just don't fall for the slugs trap. Buckshot + aiming for the legs and you can sort of make it work. Still inferior to a rifle though.
