Why are "evil" strategy games 'Evil Genius, Dungeon Keeper, etc...) so frustrating when it comes to ressources?
>evil genius
>get money really slowly, everything costs a lot

>dungeon keeper
>either the money is awfully limited, forcing you to wrap the map quickly, or it's infinite

Duh.

You are the bad guy and you want to keep a low profile since the good guys all have sweet tech and can crush you if you aren't strong enough.
>>
>>320841196
Doesn't explain why these games are so focused on economy and space management instead of doing evil stuff.
>>
>>320841517
Because they're base building games with an "evil" theme, not edgelord simulators.
>>
Because they're all poorly balanced, because they have shitty development, because they have shitty budgets, because no company wants to fund a game about being the bad guy, because only edgelords play them.
>>
>>320840302
>Red Alert
>You can achieve world domination.
>The game gives no shit about whether you're the good guy.

>Ditto for Tiberium games
>Ditto for Starcraft and Brood War
>Ditto for Warcrafts
>Ditto for Original War
>Ditto for Total Anihilation

Not really, anon.
Those games you mentioned are simply built around the resource scarcity, completely regardless of your morality.

Damn, i want to play Battle Realms no, which also has an amazing resource system.
>>
>>320840302
Evil Genius and the Dungeon Keeper games were shit to mediocre.

Come at me.
>>
>>320840302
why dont you play as the "evil" faction in normal strategy game instead?
>>
>>320840302
dungeon keeper had 1 or 2 missions, max , where you had actual resource scarcity.

The game is more about finding out small "holy fuck" enlightenment moments than anything else, really.

>timed mission.
>can't fight enemy troops. There's no time.
>just unleash your army in the enemy bridge, drop imps, capture said bridge

After the bridge is yours,
>build bridge further across the map.
>drop imps
>excavate base
>drop all your army
>push dungeon heart with posession + heal + earthquake spell + rally

Getting shit minions?
>drop them into portals
>new random minion gets out
>repeat til you have no more goblins AKA useless minions.

As long as you explore, farming minerals should be the least of your concerns excluding 2 or 3 maps out of 20.

As for Evil genius, It makes more sense for resources to work that way because you're supposed to make your way to the top by bending the rules of the law and deceiving the entire world.

Were it possible to get resources fast, (which you actually can do unless you're a fucking pleb, honestly) then the game becomes a heat management Simulator. Which is yet another facet the game is built upon : balancing how big a threat to the world the outside countries se you as.

It's a honestly good game. Just has mechanics you dislike. big deal.

My guess is that it's because these games are made with more love and care. These games are hard for you because the devs didn't make it with you in mind. They didn't care what the casuals think.
Generic strategy games are made as a product, something they can sell the GAYMUR audience.
Stuff like Evil Genius is what happens when devs actually get to make what they want to make.

Resource management is part of the gameplay. In dungeon keeper you often had limited resources like not many monsters, and having limited gold stopped you from building reinforced walls, throwing creatures into the training room, and leaving them there until they're all level tens while you harass the enemy base with spells.

With Evil Genius it's a risk/reward system. The more agents you send to high cash countries the more heat you get and the more likely you'll have elite mooks crawling up your ass or a super-agent come visit, all the while having less minions to work/guard your base.

>Evil Genius
>your objective is to build a doomsday device with which to bend the world by it's knees
>expecting the game to even make sense as na ordinary RTS without "heat" meters and covert ops elements

fucking pleb. The moral of this type of game is that the "good guys" are not stronger than you. They're just more numerous and gang up on you as soon as they see you're "evil" , which isn't even a "fair" or "righteous" fight at all. It's just gangbanging.

That's why, in order to prove your strength, you have to fight them one at a time. Covertly, so that they can't single you out and push your shit in.

It's a brawn vs brain type of setting.
