It takes 2 steps forward and 1 step back compares to previous games in the series. The biggest mistake was finally giving us a huge world to explore but filling it with nothing of value. I could deal with the fetch quests and collect 10 of this etc if there was some narrative pay off but there isn't. I was like 10 hours in and realised I hadn't had a dialogue screen of any depth with any character even npcs. It feels like a 15 hour story stretched beyond breaking point with mmo style time wasting. If you are a huge fan of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2's faults didn't bother you so much then give it a go because it's nice to see more stuff in Thedas.
As for pirating, why not pirate it to see if it's for you, if it grabs you and you're enjoying it then buy it.

i really do like the lore of Thedas in general and you even get to explore some very cool looking locations, but the MMO formula of this game is unbearable, you grind for EVERYTHING, food,potions,resources and even schematics, in every map you gotta pretty much fill up the exact same quests that involves set up camps, collect shards, complete the stars minigame, find bottles and treasure maps, all while doing the same old boring fetch quests, even your companion quests are the same, kill x rogue mages/apostates/templars, collect books, destroy these or that.
The animations fucking sucks and some of the characters are so bad that you'll forget they exist.
DA:I is not as bad as DA2, but it gets boring really fast.

I'd say it's worth it. /v/ likes to vomit on everything that it's Bioware even if they never played the games. It's a good game, different from Origins, yes, but you can't expect a series not to change. The world is well fleshed out and the combat is not that bad. The characters don't throw "GAY STUFF EWWW" at your face. Don't mind the usual "an ancient evil returns". You will find out that's not the real antagonist you need to be ready for.
Also pay attention to the Codex and all the stuff/info/details/conversations you find and hear. A lot of stuff is connected to Origins and you finally start to understand what they started in the first game (and playing Origins after discovering all the info they give you in DA:I blows your mind)

Holy shit, this. I know scripting full dialog with choreography and lip-sync must be a bitch for a game of open world scale, but that shitty "camera zooms in slightly" approach is garbage. Especially with how horrendous audio mixing is in the game and I couldn't hear shit what the characters were saying outside of important cutscenes. Someone really fucked up in that department.

Mass Effect was never a difficult game and the RPG elements really only changed to the extent that you can only spend 30ish points as opposed to 60ish. Well, Weekes is miles better than Gaider at handling characters and plot. Just look at Trespasser, it was even better than some parts of the main game.
Also Weekes was the first who openly complained about ME3 and its ending on Twitter (which caused him to leave the ME team). He also agreed with the fans that their choices didn't influence the game at all.

Yes, but lyrium is what gives them the ability to stop mages and counterattack their spells. You can't be lyrium-free and be a Templar at the same time. Those who successfully stopped drinking it are not Templars anymore, in fact.
Alistair and Cullen say it: the Chantry keeps them in check with the offer of lyrium and those who try to leave are destined to die on the streets, become crazy, or sell themselves to higher powers like Samson did.
So the order itself is automatically fucked up: in it you will find only addicted people who think every mage is a sin against the Maker.
