majoras mask is the only zelda game since the original NES one that actually has exploration to it
every other game is just The Legend Of Handholding where you are told to go to X number of dungeons to get X number of plot items, then you fight ganon at the end. The only 'exploration' that doesn't involve wandering through dungeons involves bombing walls or cutting grass to find hidden areas that have some minor bullshit powerup like slightly more health

Majoras mask seems like the most "2d" of the 3d games. You can even see it in some bosses like the minibosses from the water temple and stone tower temple, as well as twinmold. It even has the walking up/down stairs animation.
