A big thing with the sims 4 was that it was originally meant to tie into sim city
A lot of the things sim city had were built with sims 4 being integrated eventually
Of course sim city was an enormous bust and EA had to pull out of their plan
This meant remaking sims 4 to be standalone and is why certains features are the way they are
For instance the entirety of instancing was made not because of how shit 3 ran without it, but because of how shit everything would run once an entire city in sims city was trying to run it
The focus on sim city integration took away a lot of people from working on things the sims 4 needs as a standalone game, like everything that was in it in the past
tl;dr sims 4 was meant to jell with sim city and thats why it's worse tham sims 3

3 would be GOAT if it didn't run like fucking garbage, still a great game though. If you go with 3 I'd recommend downloading a smaller world from tumblr or something, so it doesn't lag your shit out.

You could probably argue that every Sims game is just a copy/paste with less stuff. (Until the games gets its like 12 expansions or whatever.)
That being said, 4 runs very well and the emotion system is well thought out. 4 definitely has potential but is probably not worth picking up until it has 1 or 2 more expansions under it's belt.
