Huh, how long has it been, like in 2010 that we were supposed to get some new Mega Man games? How time files.

Minus Infinity was finished like last year, and that's the best game in the franchise

>>320810196
battle network games remake for wiiu with better graphics while retaining same gameplay.

will also inc online balles up to 2v2
>>
>>320813081
Yeah no denying that, but I wonder when Capcom will try to do something themselves.
>>
Sit your respective asses down and wait for megaman x corrupted

In the meantime, was that rumour about a megaman cartoon by man of action legit or just fluff?
>>
>>320813594
I don't even want them too, their talent is put to better use making monster hunter than 2D quasi-indie.

Gunvolt was pretty interesting too.
>>
Megaman should have ended at Megaman 1

Just play this. It's better than anything Capcom's done lately
>>
>>320817024
No, he's correct. 8 was all kinds of bad. I can't forgive that soundtrack. It had no business being in a Megaman game. The terrible voice acting doesn't even matter at that point.
>>
>>320817153
What are you on about the soundtrack, it wasn't bad at all. Voice acting I agree with, but the music worked well.
>>
>>320817439
>but the music worked well.
Nope. One or two songs were pretty good. Nothing else fit. Too mellow, not catchy, bubbly instead of punchy. Megaman and Bass at least got this back on track. If you can't even agree on this point, it must have been your first Megaman game, for you to not weigh it against other things.

I have 1-8 and bass, so no it wasn't. Also nothing about 8 was punchy, it was bubbly and easy as fuck compared to the rest.
>>
>>320817618
>>320818004
also to expand on it, 8 was more like a Leiji Matsumoto version of megaman, which is exactly what makes it good. I don't see how someone can hate on that style of direction despite it being old.
>>
>>320817921
See? Way too mellow. He's ROCKman. Would you really claim a tune from this game is as catchy and find yourself humming it as the NES games, or even MMNB? I can't speak for everybody, but no. Almost never, except maybe the JUMP JUMP SLIDE stage music.

>I have 1-8 and bass
>have
I couldn't help but notice that qualifier. That doesn't imply play order at all. But whatever, I'm not going to harp on it.

> it was bubbly and easy as fuck compared to the rest.
Well, that's another kind of problem. But yes, it didn't really feel like the other games much either.
>>
>>320817081
No I mean:
Classic
X
Zero
ZX
Legends
Battle Network
StarForce
That's 7 series and not 6.

If you're talking the 7th gen; that had ZX, Starforce and MM9/10 but more than the 8th.

Where does X8 fit into here?
>>
>>320818278
It's definitely different, but I also feel it's the reason Megaman had to go back to 8-bit. 8 alienated too many people. MM7 felt more like a direct extension of the Megaman we knew (sprite size complaints aside).
>>
>>320818773
Not him, but probably low tier. It didn't do much wrong, but it doesn't compare with the earliest X's. If he bumped X2-4 up to high tier where they belong, then it would belong on mid tier.

Oh fuck Grenade Man theme got me going
>>
>>320818282
I beat bass, 1, 2, 4, then 8.

And sorry but megaman isn't devil may cry, and you're delusional if you think it is. Also as I said >>320818278, 8 is pretty much a Leiji Matsumoto version of megaman which is what makes it enjoyable and fun. Not everything has to be difficult to be enjoyable.

>>320818803
I know 8 alienated people and making 9-10 like 1-7 was a good move, but 8 wasn't a bad game. Also if you actually sit down and play 1-7, you won't find much any difference other than stages and bosses. 8 still is megaman gameplay wise, but they just put more work into it.
>>
>>320818803

8 did not alienate anyone. Don't even pretend it's some sort of bastard child of the franchise.

9 and 10 went 8 bit purely because of Inafune's nostalgia, not because the market felt turned off about 8.

>>320818464

Never. The blue bomber is dead. I just wish I knew /why/ Capcom buried him? Spite at the creator for leaving? Wanting to make a different series the I flagship? Felt they needed to innovate too much between games/series? He just wasn't selling games?

Best and most memorable x series boss coming through

why is he so perfect?
>>
>>320819634
Literally who? I don't even mean that in the shitty meme way, literally what boss is that? I don't remember him at all, and I've played all the Xs, at least once.
>>
>>320819518
>He just wasn't selling games?

He wasn't. I have no idea why people find this fact hard to believe.

ZX Advent was an abysmal flop. Starforce didn't take off as well as EXE and while Mega Man 9 was a critical darling, we don't know how 10 performed.

You can't say it was an issue of quality as the last couple of Mega Man games were pretty good.

The fan base did more whining than take action. The 100,00 Strong for Legends 3 was pathetic. It took them over a year to reach the goal.

You're all overreacting. They're not outright burying him in a vault never to be seen again. They just don't know what to do with him.
>>
>>320819795
>Starforce didn't take off as well as EXE
I partially blame myself, since I couldn't get into the combat. It was literally just "battle network, but less mobility, and depth", at lest for the first entry.

Speaking of, would one be able to make a game with a pair of 9x9 grids, and randomly selected ability "cards" like BN, with the serial numbers filed off?

I really thought MM7 was the weaker game than 8. And the complaints my friends always brought up about the two were basically "Mega Man X is better than Mega Man is". MM7 was slower and didn't have the acrobatics of X1-3. The challenge the Wily Chaser poses is directly related to how well jumping. 8 at least had fluid platforming, and stages with sprawl in 2 dimensions even if it lacked the same agility.

The Wily Chaser always sticks out to me wondering why and how that fight was balanced. But I don't think that criticism of 7 is unfair. 7's plot seemed to be trying hard to darken the series, and the limited secrets seemed like they were designed in kind of X's systematic
>>
>>320819971
Damnit cutoff
>systematic secrets; but they were usually blind like finding the Hyper Arm by jumping on a platform and using the Rush Search.
>>
>>320819962
>>320819935
Jesus Christ how did I not remember that? Come to think of it, I barely remember X7 at all. When I really think back, I can remember at least the last couple levels of X8, and the shitty sigma design, but all I can remember of X7, is the weird 3ps controls, and Axel existing.
>>
>>320819923

Well EXE was made for a younger audience, and that audience grew out of it.

Starforce was meant to attract a new generation of kids, which is why it was dumb down even further.

They also fucked up by releasing 3 God damn versions.
>>
>>320819795
>>320820261
There's a lot of factors going into this though. Battle Network was the relatively big success it was because of the Pokemon market strategy. Game gets people interested in the Saturday Morning Cartoon, Cartoon shows ads for the game; kids get the game turn their friends on, and make a cyclical consumption cycle. But Star Force didn't get that. The SF anime was only streamed online in both Japan and the US with the exception of 1 single hour block on a different network in the US. BN sales were tapering off around the time that show stopped being broadcast in Japan and just started being streamed, though the quality of BN4 also didn't help.

Now do I personally want Mega Man to be a children's cartoon with a game people buy? Not really, no. But especially when trying to push a new brand; a half hour commercial that is itself advertised to kids as part of their freedomnohomeworkday morning routine would be a big part of that.

Maybe but I really think it's Capcom's own damn fault they turned a few people off. Not even in the Starforce jump; BN3-6 had constant upsetting of the formula, new gimmicks to complement the Customizer and yearly sequels without crossgame compatibility.
>>
>>320818282
>ROCKman
you want Rock in your rockman, go to the X series or beyond, because the Classic series is mostly synth-driven and about catchy tunes that fit the stages

What really amazes me is that one of him screaming would annoying enough, yet they put THREE of him in there, like they knew it would get annoying so the just decided to really go all out with it. There's also this huge battlefield that's completely pointless since you always have to fight the real one on top of the giant walking mech. It like the entire fight is just meant to fuck with you in every conceivable way.

This is why cancelling every game they had in the works was stupid.

The Mega Man MMO was probably doomed to failure; but the gameplay actually looked really fairly close minus contact damage, and NeoWiz had people interested in it even if they were just chasing down a couple of fan favorite roster inclusions to make that as a sell.

Mega Man Universe was a prealpha mess that was poorly promoted and I can honestly see a dozen reasons why it would be cancelled. But in light of the revelation it was rushed to the public; the concept was fairly solid. And it would've fit Capcom's DLC model FAR better than any other existing Mega Man series. With the content already existing for there to be planned expansions, even outside of Mega Man.

Legends wasn't a popular series; but the fans and the devs passionately loved it. Because the world and characters were colorful and funny. And I think problems beyond "That's not really Mega Man" with the games was because it was a TPS on the PS1. All TPS on the PS1 sucked. But in Gen7 2 were Capcom's biggest successes. The game might not have been finished but it was polished and seemed intuitive from the few play demos they gave. PR and backlash aside I honestly think this was their biggest mistake because this is the most 'advanced' series with a 3D world open world, and Mega Man was getting praised as a retro game standard.

I'd even have a word to say in favor of the concept of that Maverick Hunter FPS. While rebooting the X line into an M rated FPS was probably a huge turnoff since X1 specifically is held in high regard... I miss FPS with funny or inventive Duke3D-like weapons. Which even in the white-tiled build they showed that was present.

Anyone decrying "It's not Mega Man" can shove their dick up a lemon and fuck a succubus. Mega Man is compartmentalized into sub-series and each one has a different gameplay format. It can have a venture fail and neither destroy the brand, or any existing series.
