Eyes. Contrary to popular belief, they didn't pluck out Adam's eyes. They coated it in a "plastic film' that acts as a monitor/projector, with chips and wires and plastic wafers in it, to act as the computer, and in the case of the wafer, to simulate the Smart Vision.

One the biological level, this is true. We understand a lot of how the human body works, and that gives us knowledge.

But the human condition isn't just knowing how we work, is it? I'd argue its defined by our experiences as a species, and by augmenting ourselves we radically change that in an unnatural jump that will fuck us all up.

Sure, you could think faster, move quicker, lift more and fuck longer but that won't save you from the non-physical issues that augmentations create, like what we see in Human Revolution.

Did you even play the game?

>>320795920
Its a philosophical one and thus impossible to answer. I'd argue that becoming a fully cyberized person would make you inhuman, because you would be detached from problems that make us human.

Why? Humanity has consistently pushed limits, but we've always maintained the human condition. By allowing augmentations we'll become something more than human, but the cost of that is too severe for us as a race.
>>
>>320790592
Probably just the eyes at first, so I could have IR vision and a HUD.
Above that, I'd replace various body parts as they became weak with age, eventually replacing everything I could.
I'd even replace the brain, if it could be done gradually so as to maintain stream of consciousness. Straight-up uploading doesn't sit well with me because it seems a lot like just making a clone and killing the original.

You're just talking out your ass at this point. The idea that we as humans will suddenly abandon our humanity as soon as we get robo limbs is silly. We're not talking about turning every single human into a robot, we're talking about people getting improved bionic limbs/eyes/organs etc. that improve their quality of life. To be human is to constantly try to make things better for yourself, augmentations are part of that.

I'd get literally everything except my brain completely replaced with synthetic parts. I don't trust the concept of "downloading your brain" onto a hard drive. This is such an unfounded fear for augments.
Just get eyes that don't have any way to connect to the Internet. Even if all augments were "always online" (which I seriously doubt) people would still be able to mod them in order to return offline functionality.

It's just one of the more goofy elements of cyberpunk fiction that people take seriously for some reason. In cyberpunk EVERYTHING is always online because it makes the hacking theme more interesting, no matter how unrealistic it is. Although even Ghost in the Shell has an offline mode.

Watch Dogs was the pinnacle of that, where apparently things like grenades and steam pipes all had internet connections.

>Augmentations and AI are two separate things.
Both are discussed in Deus Ex and also go hand in hand.

>Corporations are only a couple steps away from owning us anyway.
Yeah but imagine being forced to exist because of that. Watch Robocop again, its a great movie about such an idea.

>Human lives already have dollar values attached to them. There are already a bunch of inanimate objects worth more than you are.
Yeah but they can't do things we can do. Can a robot perform advanced surgery /by itself/? Because once that becomes possible human surgeons become unneeded, as a robot can do it better and doesn't require years of training. The angsty teen in the UK tv show Humans talks about this exact topic.

>How many more levels are there?
Yeah it is a bit weird to say levels in this context.

>This one is hard to imagine.
Is it though? In Deus Ex you see humans hating Augs, and Augs hating humans. There are emails that talk about farmers suing for the right to amputate themselves so they can compete with their aug competition.

>elaborate on the blurring of the lines between the digital and the physical
You can see examples of this in Ghost In The Shell 2 Gig. Various characters hack the eyes of others to change what they see to their own advantage.

You'll also be faced with waifufags who get their eyes auged just so they can see hatsune miku in what they believe is real life.

>elaborate on the value of human life becoming blurred
Where do you draw the line on cyberized people? Does a brain in a jar still count as a person? Does a self aware AI count as a person? What about those who have been reanimated through technology eg Robocop or Universal Soldier?

>Both are discussed in Deus Ex

So? That doesn't intrinsically tie them together any more than it means aumentations and the illuminati must be tied together

>Yeah but imagine being forced to exist because of that. Watch Robocop again, its a great movie about such an idea.

No, it's dumb. If I buy a car the corporation that made it can't tell me where to drive. There's no reason to believe augmented parts would work any differently. Even if they had some really specific Terms of Use a judge could strike it down.

>Yeah but they can't do things we can do. Can a robot perform advanced surgery /by itself/? Because once that becomes possible human surgeons become unneeded, as a robot can do it better and doesn't require years of training. The angsty teen in the UK tv show Humans talks about this exact topic.

This line of thnking has been proven wrong time and again. Every time robots take away one job, they create another. All you can do is draw arbitrary lines where "this time it's different!"
>Is it though? In Deus Ex you see humans hating Augs, and Augs hating humans. There are emails that talk about farmers suing for the right to amputate themselves so they can compete with their aug competition.

The point was, without cyberaugs we already had a ton of genocides and shit. I don't see how discrimination is going to get any worse than genocide. Or how it could.

Mechanical augmentations is far more trouble than its worth compared to organic ones.

You have no self-repair or self maintainence capabilities. So you are fucking screwed if you have to be survive in isolated or hostile environment, especially with the lack of supplies.
In typical cases you have to constantly spend a fortune for the upkeep

Your parts become easily outdated to the point where your hardware no longer receive support.

Mechanical augmentation is fucking crude and primitive as hell. Its like trying to make a car powered by child labor, flying by dynamite explosions, taking a car door so you can 'cool' yourself by cranking open the window.

Basically the machine and body interaction is fucking subpar and inefficient
>>
>>320808846
>In typical cases you have to constantly spend a fortune for the upkeep

>Your parts become easily outdated to the point where your hardware no longer receive support.
People change out their phones every 2-3 years and cars every 5-10 years. Why not limbs?
>>
>>320790592
All of them. I am the robot
>>
>>320808846
>You have no self-repair or self maintainence capabilities
But remember also that mechanical limbs are sturdier than organic ones. In a situation in which an organic arm could be sliced open, a metal arm would shrug off the blade, making the skin's healing factor irrelevant. In a situation in which an organic arm would have a bone broken, you'd go to a hospital to get it fixed anyway, making the trip to a maintenance shop to fix a mechanical arm broken as a result of the same trauma no worse than that.

The only situation in which the biological healing factor for a limb would be a serious advantage is if you happened to be stranded in the wilderness and break your arm. You then set the bone by yourself and fashion a sling, stay trapped in the wilderness for the months it'd require to heal, after which you can use it again.
In that situation, yeah I guess the guy with the mechanical arm would have egg on his face.

If you replace your entire brain, you'd literally br killing yourself.
You cant transfer the essence of your conscience. The best you can do is make a perfect replica of it and upload it to a machine. But the original you would be destroyed once that brain is discarded.

>>320809174
This.
>>
>>320812879
What if you, bit by bit, replace organic parts of your brain with mechanical analogs? Barring the discovery of a single definitive part of the brain that holds a person's entire consciousness, who could say at what point during the gradual replacement you ceased to be you?
>>
>>320812879
The way we understand brains right now, it's possible for someone to operate and maintain memories and knowledge with removal of some of their brain tissue.
Who is to say you couldn't get a synthetic brain expansion that your body will favor to your old tissue, and "you" will be copied into that as your old neurons die?

>>320814307
the price of surgery and treatment has gone down more than tenfold

>>
>>320813435
>That's bullshit, but I believe it
Anon uses the 7-year cell replacement myth to support the claim. The truth is that brain cells are not replaced, but more do grow in over time.

To replace a brain, one would have to deep-scan the entirety of the neural network and feed the results into a synthetic container capable of preserving that information, then attach that container to a machine capable of simulating the brain, then attach that machine to the body's nervous system.
It's a very complex procedure, and you would indeed not be yourself. The old brain (you) would be discarded.

Alternatively, an iterative approach has been proposed for this hypothetical, wherein portions of the brain are removed and replaced with simulacra.
This would be a gradual enough process that no shock should occur, and the chunks of brain removed would not necessarily be "the consciousness" (as it's only a small portion).
Whether there is memory loss depends on the technology that exists to copy what is in those sections of the brain to the simulacra.
>>
>>320814506
So you're going to get some knockoff Chinese augs? Otherwise you'd probably be paying out the ass for augs produced outside the country you're getting the surgery done in.

>>320814530
The cost of the organ is a fraction of the total price for the op.
>>
>>320814994
I don't think ill of them for it.
But isn't it true that, if they wanted to, they could perform surgeries for a meager salary and reduce the price of surgery by a great amount?
It's their right to charge what they like for their services, but it is still a fact that surgery is expensive mostly in order to cover salaries.
>>
>>320815145
we're talking about a product thats a prototype in the OP

and we're also talking about fictional future where the common man would amputate an appendage for a prosthetic

if it got to that point you could afford it

hell theres 3D printable robotic prosthetic arms for amputees that is quite effective and also cheap

organs however are gonna be expensive because its more delicate of a procedure to repair something or replace something with a foreign organ that may not fit, be compatible or whatnot

the only reason the OP costs alot even is because he had it custom modeled for him using specific tools to tailor it, which is why it costs soo much they're including the price of the machines that calibrate his leg once in the overall price
>>
>>320815241
>to cover salaries
It's actually to cover liability.

The most inflexibly expensive parts of an organ transplant are the organ itself and the equipment used during the operation.

The doctor could take almost nothing, but because people are sue-happy, especially in the US, and much can go wrong with complex procedures, they must hike prices to discourage casual surgery and protect themselves in the event they are sued by someone for a mistake or death.
>>
>>320815241
>for a meager salary
your gonna tell someone straight faced to be a 4.0 student and waste 4 years of undergrad not to mention high school before that studying then 4 years of medical then 2 years of residency while being in student debt of around 1million, thats not a stretch btw if you go ivy league its gonna cost that much

and then after mal practice insurance and hospital politics to perform a 6-16 hr surgery to work for peanuts you gotta be outta your fucking mind

hell alot of my friends in med school are dropping it do to the ACA since private practices are gonna be non existant and becoming a mcdonalds style doctor of flipping through patients is not what they signed up for

tl;dr
>surgery is expensive to cover salaries
doctors have a shit ton of loans to pay off and wasted their youth studying as well as paying for mal practice insurance its not a beautiful lifestyle to work shit hours and make 250k when programmers do less and make more for less of a committed academic career

And now their field is saturated to the point that only those with an education and experience rivaling most MDs can make as much.

giving feedback is the hard part since at the moment things are only being read and theres no direct pseudo nerve from machine back into hosts

A software company does not hire for keeps unless they are key members of the design team.
They hire the most of the best they can find, use them until the product is done, then fire them all unless a planned follow-up requires their skill (then they're put on unpaid leave until they're needed).

Tech and medical are very different fields in this way.
A doctor will always have patients, a programmer is guaranteed nothing and careers are largely unsustainable unless they operate as consultants, and that will make them less desirable for regular employment in the long-run.
They write themselves out of work, then either look for more work elsewhere or pray a friend within the company calls them with a new opportunity.
